Yeah haha, I think we all have those moments!

To the new guys, remember to keep stuff brief, nothing worse than needing to shout up and someones updating the same info about 5 times!

Yep. David Rathband nearly ran out of consciousness and strength to ask for help - Because somebody was booking off duty the long way around after he was shot. Took him 3 attempts to get on the air.

was this the case even if he'd pressed the emergency button as i was under the impression that this would transmit over everything else that was in the air?

The Emergency button would indeed - But Rathband had no sight, and the emergency button on his car was on the computer screen of the car - He had to press the PTT button that was attached to the gearstick and he could find by feel. (I've been reading his book! :new_shades:)

That really is one of those sad bits of 'X' factor that can really mess around with the best of plans. I can only assume his personal set was turned off or damaged in the attack.

Getting a bit worried about the role plays we're doing tomorrow- lost/found property and illness in the street. Seeing as it's not real how far do we have to get, especially with the illness bit? Do we actually have to call an ambulance? Not to mention we haven't done first aid yet and my knowledge is pretty rudimental (here love, have a plaster)

Don't fret - you'll understand when you get there. Obviously don't call an ambo! Unless they combine it with radio training - in which case the 'controller' will be someone in a classroom with a radio anyway! But no - you won't need to do first aid or call an ambulance - you'll see.. Just do what you would do naturally. :) it's not a test! It's just experience and training.

Well, when we did it we didn't have the our Airwaves, so not opportunity to simulate actually calling for assistance/AMBOs, but there is nothing wrong with pretenting to be honest, if it makes you feel better.

With the role plays in this situation, the actor SCs would be looking more for your ability to talk to someone and react intelligently to information given to you from the actor SCs. The actual technicial details of how to deal with a lost/found or illness in the street they will be looking for a grasp of the mechanisms to deal with them, but this is traing you will build upon on division so faultless understanding is not expected.

So really, be prepared to act, ask questions and act/speak how you would like to be treated/how you would like your gran etc to be spoken to or treated. It is however always useful to read up on the actions and duties of a first responder, as well as force procedure for lost/found/ill people, remembering your key competancies too...such as resiliance, team work etc

Keep it real and enjoy the learning.
