I think the rumor mill has been blowing full steam ahead here! I do agree about some people not being able to become Specials - My S/Sgt raised it the other day, kids, non eligiable jobs etc.
As for rumour control - My Specials Sgt said he'd heard the pass mark on the assessment was 80%. So if only 180 were taken to the assesment probably only 20 would pass that! (As the standard set by the ACPO is 50% and some forces increase it to 60% to wipe a lot of potential students out) Given that there was 2 weeks for the applications to be put in so plenty of time to practise. I shall wait until I here from them before I actualy believe anything!

80%...! What??! They'd probably end up with 5 people passing it at that level... :new_crazy:

If they get 80% then I think they should start on £40k a year!!

But that's the rumour mill for you! Were did you here that 900 internal apps were sent out? Thing is, I was thinking. In 2010, Cheshire had 2,000 civvie staff and 200 Specials. Take a chunk out for the cuts, say 10%, then add 100 Specials (At the current rate). That gives you about 2,150 potential applicants, but we could say 2,000 internal, to be fair?
So that would mean that almost 1 in 2 have thought of applying? That includes, catering staff (Very nice ladies), security staff - good blokes, plus a vast amount of civvies that probably earn more than most coppers, IT etc. Then on top of that, out of 350 Specials, I bet 100 aren't really doing their shifts and at least another 50 probably (Like my new S/Sgt) earn too good a money to apply.

Rumour mill also said my wife was going to leave me because Kerry Katona was going to steal me from the wife anyway, good thought, but hey, it's the rumour mill and I ain't listening!

Sorry, just noticed the bit about 900 in total! My mistake, I shall shut the rumour mill down for 5 minutes!

Just for the record as well, including intakes 28 & 29 which are in training there are apprx 500 specials currently serving in Cheshire (although as you say some of those won't really be doing their hours). And that is the number the ACC wants maintained for the time being...

28 and 29? I was 26, then I thought that 27 started at the end of March just gone? I'm sure I heard that 27 was a mega intake - 60 or so, I think we got through ours fine as there was on average 14 to the group, I know yours (Ricky) took longer, as it was a large intake.

Yeh we were 60 and ending up getting split into 2 groups at least for most things, was really tricky for the tuturs who were used to 10-20 at most.
Ah I thought you were 27, I mean 27 & 28 then, I believe 28 are going to be 60 as well when they start. The idea being they want 500 on the streets by the end of the year.

No idea, but as it's not mentioned I'd doubt it. Can't hurt to give Recruitment a call though...

Any time really, they've processed a good number of the forms I believe. I got a call last week querying a Vetting question. I'm working on it being any time this month and will be relieved when i get a letter (with either result)

Post I'd imagine. Cheshire hasn't really caught up with the 20th century yet on the use of new fangled technologies such as electronic-mail. (unless it's to bother you about training of course)

Really?? I heard 900! Either way it's quite a low percentage who will be successful...

I'm sure the letter (which came with the application form) said it would be via an e-mail! Might be faster to mass produce it!

Looking to transfer in; curious, does Cheshire run a merged neighbourhood/response? If so, I assume that posting options are as per those locations listed on the BCU info pages on the website?

Cheers,

Netto

What force are you thinking of transferring from? Cheshire do have merged neighbourhood and response.
