Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum, I recently passed my PIRT and Medical so if the fitness test goes well then I start training in June.

I just wanted some advice on choosing where to serve. I originally chose Hertford, I know the town quite well and it isn't too far from where I live (Harlow). However I drive that way regularly for University and work, and I'm starting to find the journey quite monotonous.

I am now considering changing to Bishop's Stortford if possible. It would be more convenient as there is also a regular bus and train service, so if I didn't fancy driving then I have other options. I also know the area quite well.

I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with either of the areas? Are there many pros/cons between the two other than what I've mentioned? Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I am not personally familiar with either or those areas (I'm in North Herts) but the Bishop's Stortford team are very pro-active (I follow them both on twitter) and it does seem an interesting location to serve.

That's just my thoughts though, BS is more rural so I personally have more interest in what goes on there and I don't know anything about Hatfield so I can't fairly compare the two.

TBH, they both come under the same area so it doesn't really make a lot of difference and if you needed to I am sure that you could switch between the two.
They are actually both fairly rural, BS will also cover Sawbo down to Harlow, whereas Hertford will also cover Ware and over to Stevenage area.
Both have the ability to be fairly busy, and at the moment both will equally have the ability to be reasonably q!
I would be very surprised if you don't end up more down towards Hoddesdon at times!

Windy when he comes along would be able to give you better info as he has worked out of both areas, I have covered them all but not as in depth.
