Join The March – Thursday 10Th Of May 2012 – Are You Going?

I haven’t seen much mention of the upcoming Police Federation march at London on Thursday the 10th of May on the website and as the most visited Police form in the UK, who is going??
I have posted this in ‘general discussion’ to reach a wider audience as the march is open to all serving and retired Police officers, Specials, staff, friends & family and members of the public. In my opinion the basis for the march concerns everyone and is not restricted to ‘regular’s only’ or ‘regular’s zone’.
If you are seeking to join the service in any capacity, then you need to be aware of the issues of concern as they will affect you.
For those who are unaware of what I’m posting about, thousands of police officers from across the country are to march through London to show their determination to resist the Government’s unprecedented programme of cuts to police numbers and degradation of officers’ conditions of employment.
Many within the service feel that we are currently being attacked by all angles from the current government in the form of the Hutton, Windsor 1 & 2 and Neyroud reports. Not to mention the 20% cut’s to Policing budgets.
There are far too many issues to be mentioned in my post, but some of the more emotive to officers are;
· Reduction in Police officer pay
· Pay freeze for four years (last increase Sept 2010)
· Direct entry reducing promotion opportunities
· Buy-out of overtime
· Police officers subject to compulsory redundancy (but without any employee rights)
· Officers injured in the line of duty made redundant if unable to conduct ‘front line duties’
· Privatisation of some Policing services

I just hope others are being positive and proactive about doing something to get voices heard.

To keep it simple, can we start a list of Attendees and Possibles, so that we have a rough idea of how many PS.commers will attend? I'll start it:
Attending:
walesmjc
Activist App
StinSte
Possibly Attending:
Ben.
Giraffe
Just copy and paste it into your post and add your name (or remove it if you can no longer make it).

Will be interested to see how much press coverage it gets. Will the march be policed?
I should think it'd have to be given the numbers of people going... not so much because the bobbies on the march will go on the rampage, but I would think it's an ideal opportunity for various other factions to try and disrupt.
I can't see it getting much media attention to be honest, it'll be played down and any stories that do come out will be along the lines of us being money-grabbing, selfish, gold-plated pensionable nobbers.

Unfortunately, I agree.
A lot of people (normally young) attend protests for things that sometimes might not affect them directly. But they go to them because they believe in the cause and want to help the people involved. It would be nice if they extended their supprt to the police as well.

If our own colleagues won't show support, the general public sure as hell wont!

I seem to remember a rather large amount of people marching through London a few years back... all wearing white baseball caps
It just needs a bit of a frenzy - The Fed need to be making it more public and *should* send out e-mails through the internal system.

Points are given for humour, play-on-words and/or subtle digs at Winsor

All other suggestions welcome too...

A lot of Police Staff where I am were asked if they'd attend and i'm yet to hear of one saying yes. I understand it's not their problem the attacks on our pay and conditions, but it will be when we're refusing to turn out to their Facebook CADs and the jobs are stacking up.
I wonder if that might be down to the less-than-enthusiastic response to their strike from their warranted colleagues...
