Hello All,

I am currently awaiting confirmation that my Vetting Documents & References have been approved and I also need to have the Medical.

However, in relation to Standard Issue equipment and uniform list, is there anything else other than boots that I will need to purchase? i.e utility belt/keyholder/cuff holder/torch etc etc? A list would be helpful so I can plan ahead should the 'final paperwork & medical' be successful.

I'd also like to know if cuff/baton training can be failed and what the next processes are after the Medical. Is there a law exam that requires sitting and studying for and would reading basic common law information help? Any additional information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There is a thread somewhere detailing what you'll receive.. Bear with!

http://www.policespe...d-uniform-list/

In terms of extras I'm not sure. I imagine it varies force to force. Literature-wise I have the Blackstone's SC handbook which I've been reading in preparation (I'm a little ahead of you but yet to start training). In the above thread Damsel encourages PM's if you have a question so maybe ask her directly?

merlin773, congratulations on the process so far, I'm afraid its a bit of a waiting game from now onwards! As LucyHelen has said, I think the Blackstone manuals are really very good: either the SC one or the Law and Procedure ones. In terms of extra kit, I think this is force specific. For example, my force supply really rather terrible torches and so everyone replaces them with better ones. There are plenty of threads on here about additional equipment and the best boots etc. But my advice would be to wait until you get out there and see what you actually need, wait to see the quality of the standard kit issued and then you can work out what you really need. You won't need anything apart from standard issue kit (apart from boots) for training so wait until you get out there, that would be my personal advice.

In terms of the cuff/baton training, I think this is force specific as well although you will find that the entire training course is 'continually assessed' - nothing too scary - it just means they keep an eye on you throughout the whole thing and let you know if there are any concerns. As far as I'm aware, there are no 'law exams' as such, I never had to do one, but as I say, it will be continually assessed/force specific.

Training is a lot of fine so don't worry unduly about passing/failing, the trainers are there to help you perform at your best and the majority of people get through it absolutely fine.

Hope this helps,

Let us know how you get on.

Depending on which force you are applying to, I would hold back on buying books etc.. Certainly in TVP we get issued a copy of Blackstone's Handbook for Policing Students.

Definitely a good torch; again TVP get issued the AA Mini Maglight LED - they're ok, but there are far better ones around.

You will be issued a "utility" belt and/or a harness/tactical vest depending on your force.

Lucky you! We got the standard AA mini Maglight! (Bulb - Not LED)
I was in the intake after yours!

The extra LED upgrade to the mini maglight is better than the standard LED mini maglight.

I already have a LED Lenser which I use for Scouting. I'll definitely invest in 'upgraded' equipment if the opportunity arises.

A LED Lenser tends to be the best available, stick with that.

I know it's a mixture, but I think as this is mainly kit related it should sit in Kit Corner rather than the recruitment section. I'll also remove 'Going Equipped' from the tags as it's not relevant.

I hear that my force no longer issues torches at all, we used to get a AA mini maglite (not LED) which is best used attached to my tac vest for night time reading, filling out forms etc.

I bought myself a Lenser T7 from Amazon a couple of months ago, which was on special offer at the time.

Check this out:
