He admits the high vis has it's benefits with cycle patrols but all replacements will now be black.
Im happy but i would rather be issued with a new black cover now and prolong the life of the high vis one for cycle or HVP patrols.

The black body armour covers are also cheaper....Which raises the question as to how much we could have saved if we had had black in the first place.

Does anyone know what this means to us who are likely (all being well) to get issued kit in the next month (give or take)? will it be black or hi-viz?
I would assume the Warehouse will use previous Hi-Vis stock. I doubt you'll get your armor, there is a rather large back log, i'm still waiting on mine

It strikes me that what is needed is a balance between the two designs. All yellow hi-vis is too garish, but all black is difficult to spot and not good in traffic situations. My suggestion would be a black background with a few blue or white (or battenburg) retro-reflective bands horizontally and/or vertically across.

The black being no good is a moot point anyway, because not even the yellow body armour covers meet the necessary criteria for traffic work (meaning an overcoat is required regardless, rendering the colour of the body armour beneath it irrelevant).

Interesting to know, although I didn't necessarily mean just for traffic officers. Any officer might find themselves in a situation where they need to be "high-vis", but I'd like to think we could do that whilst making them look more professional than they do covered in yellow.
By the way, it's very distracting having that BADGER BADGER BADGER gif bouncing up and down above the quick reply box

And when did we start wearing black body armor? I mean I like the black color and the yellow stuff isn't exactly flavor of the month but please, please...let's be using U's!

I rather like my high-vis. Before it became standard issue our SNT invested in high-vis covers to make it easier for when we were out on the bikes, so we could be seen easierly, not having to wear restrictive and obstructive jackets etc. Of course I can totally understand why the current covers have their draw backs what with trying to keep them clean, standing out like a sore thumb in certain situations where it's not desirable ... o and not forgetting attracting every flying insect within a 10 metre radius.

Got the long awaited blood on my hi viz stabbie the other night, state 5 black cover
A few officers had theres replaced recently. They go hi-vis ones in return. Apparently they have a large stock to get through before the black ones are issued.

Actually you're right and wrong. Yes they may have a large stock overall, but considering the amount of varying sizes, they only need to run out of *your* size for it to be a winner!

Plus maybe they'll look kindly on me, I did specify about 3 times on the form that I needed a BLACK cover.

Went really well. Took the exam on Monday evening and found out on Wednesday that I'd passed with 80%. Well chuffed.
Now got my Induction B on 26th June
