Hi all, im currently waiting to hear if I passed the assessment but jumping ahead of the game im just interested in the process should I pass.
I keep seeing gateway modules, induction a, uniform fitting, induction b etc. Can anyone tell me how this all fits in to place and roughly how long it takes?
Thanks

Jumping a step back, how long did it take for you to get through the paper sift and get to the assessment day?

All the stages will be explained to you. It takes atleast a year from your assessment date to be a fully warranted SC.

My experience as posted here: http://www.policespe...ss/page__st__25. I have to say there are others in here as well, so if you want to see what other applicants are finding the timescales, take a look! :(

3rd Sep 2011:- Sent off application form

28th Sep 2011: Received acknowledgement letter and data collection form to be sent back.

3rd Oct 2011: Sent off Data collection form

14th Nov 2011: Enquired about status of application, found out I passed Paper Sift and was awaiting being placed on an Assessment process which at this time looks to be the beginning of February 2012.

9th January 2012: Received Assessment Process information for the 1st February 2012!

1st February 2012: Assessment Process

17th February 2012: Assessment Process results back, PASSED

22nd March 2012: Fitness Test (JRFT) PASSED (You know on the day)

23rd March 2012: Vetting/Medical Papers received

2nd April 2012: Vetting papers/Medical Papers sent off.

After the fitness test, you'll be sent a pre-join CD with the theory (gateway) training on it.

Hope this helps. And yes, it is a very long process, but stick with it! :p

Hiya Chaser23,

You say you received the gateway training on the CD in the post after the fitness test? I too received a CD, but don't think it was ALL the gateway modules? I understood it to be that the CD contained just the pre employment modules that you need to complete as a pre cursor to the gateway course? Along with the CD I did however, receive paperwork that outlined the gateway modules that would be covered in due course...

Is that your understanding also? Can anyone clarify either way? Thanks in advance!

The CD you get after the fitness test.
It doesn't contain the gateway modules, merely a sort of pre-opening to them and a couple of quizzes you have to pass inorder to progress.

The plan is to provide all of the Gateway Module Workbooks either on the disc or on-line. Don't think that's happened yet though.

Yes that is exactly what I meant, sorry I should have been more clear. We're on that first box on the timeline we got sent.

Out of interest, if you've done all of the knowledge checks, were you able to send them back to the preemployment email address supplied? I tried to send it, but got a message back saying no such recipient. In the end, I sent it to the Community Coordinator.

I sent it to the email address provided, heard nothing for a good few weeks, rung them up and got told they didn't recieve the email. So best if you don't hear anything to give them a quick buzz.

Thanks guys, much appreciated! How long did you wait before contacting Mayday?

Also, regarding workbooks, I've heard that some people received their first workbooks with their knowledge check CD or got them in a matter of days afterwards. Is this the case because all I got, and I'm assuming Mich72 is the same, was the CD and bits and pieces on the course and what to expect?

Yes Chaser23, I emailed my answers back to the stated email address and it was acknowledged from them, so not sure what happened in your scenario... it wouldn't have been a typo surely.... ??? :new_no: (just teasing!)

You know Mayday, I reckon they took notice of the problem, because on the letter you get with the pre-employment CD, they say that if you have any issues with the email address supplied, send it to the Community Co-ordinator's address. I think thats a good inclusion for applicants, in case we have problems like I've had, and you've had!

Thanks for the info on the workbooks as well, thats very good to know :new_doh2:

My first attempt at sending the pre-knowledge checks failed, due to the misreading of the email address supplied.

The first letter is an i, not an l...

Are you waiting to hear back about induction A / medical / vetting Chaser?

Ah, now I see, I used a l, not an i, so that explains why my email didn't get through the first time! Looks like an l though on the sheet! :aok:

Yes I am, Vetting and medical I sent off before Easter, but I'm not really expecting that to come back till about 7-9 weeks time, the only thing I'm currently waiting on is an Induction A date just like you are! Hopefully, that would come through in a couple of days.

Haven't received an Induction email yet, but I've got a medical date! The Community Co-ordinator sent off my checks to the training admins earlier this week, so I'm hopefully on the next one. Forcey, may I ask, did you have to submit alternative answers to the knowledge checks or were they all okay?

They were all okay, I'm not sure but I think they have to be before they book you on an induction?

My medical date has come through as well, it appears the pace has now quickened!

Yeah, I had some answers to change which probably slowed me down, all is well now, but I reckon I must have just missed out on the Sunday induction, (well I hope!). Yeah, your right, it says on the letter that they have to be completed before your induction A.

Did you get your medical details via email or telephone?

I've been trying to send my knowledge checks off ALL day, but until I came on here to ask for assistance, it seems Chaser has given me the answer with the email beginning with i instead of l! (Talk about annoying typos)
All is sent off now, I had my medical in Netley on wednesday, so all I need now is my Induction A and Vetting to be completed, then uniform, then induction B and the rest to come after that! It's starting to become a real reality now! If I could go back and tell my 10 year old self that at the age of 18 I shall become a Special, I wouldn't even believe it!

Good luck guys, I hope it all goes well and quickly
