Hi everyone,

I am thinking of applying to Cambridgeshire Special Constabulary as a, very good, step towards being a Regular in the (hopefully) near future once I have got some more experience.
However, I have noticed that some other forces allow their Specials to...erm...specialise in certain areas, RPU etc etc.

Does the same happen with Cambs? As there is not real mention of it on their website, or I am not looking hard enough.

If there is could someone provide me with some more information, please. Specifically detail on Roads Policing (what Specials do with them, extra training they do etc) as this is where I would like to go once I am a Regular. Although, obviously, at the moment I am open to any specialism.

Thank you in advance
timtim

Hello Tim,

Yes as a Cambs special you can specialise into traffic, however i believe you have to hold "independant status" which comes after around a years service.

As for what you will be doing, im not too sure on the full details but you will be double crewing with a regular traffic officer.

Best of luck with your application!

Thank you DouggyMc, that at least clears some bits up :new_eyebrow:

Can anyone else shed some light on what we'd do? Response driving (after a while).

What other specialisms are there too? As I would not want to limit myself with such a great opportunity

Public protection unit, TAC team (kind of a similar idea to a TSG but not quite...kind of...) and I believe there has been some talk of CID in some form. TFU has also been mentioned but only as an unarmed third hand. I'm sure with opRedisign though there will be plenty of other opportunities that pop up!

As for response driving...several have done the course but at present you have to have 3 years service and IPS

Good luck :new_sneaky2:

Thanks everyone.

And for the record I only mention about Response Driving as I'm an Advanced Driving tutor with RoSPA and it is always something I've wanted to do...not because it's the reason I want to join the Police

...just in case that is how people are reading my post.
