New police station for central Bristol

The Bridewell Police Station

From today, the police station for central Bristol will be moved across the road. The Bridewell is located at 1-2 Bridewell Street, opposite the previous police station (New Bridewell), and will house a new front office, which will be open to the public.

A key part of the police's accommodation programme 'Building for the Future', The Bridewell will provide a much more accessible and welcoming front office for the public and an improved working environment for staff. It will also enable the sale of New Bridewell police station, the release of leased accommodation and improve the police's green footprint in the city.

Being situated in the centre of the city makes it an ideal base from which officers will patrol 24/7. In addition to response teams, The Bridewell will house the local neighbourhood teams, the dangerous offenders unit and a number of our criminal justice teams.

Avon and Somerset Probation will also join us in our new building from May, providing opportunities for us to work closer with our partners.

The enquiry office hours will continue to be as previously:
- Monday to Saturday 8.30am - 4.30pm
It is expected that these will be extended by July 2012 should the demand warrant this.

C/Supt Jon Stratford, Deputy District Commander for Bristol said: "We have been looking to move out of New Bridewell for some time. I'm sure it can't have gone unnoticed that the building needs a significant amount of work to bring it up to an acceptable standard. The cost of doing that was simply prohibitive."

"We are delighted to open our new police station today, which will provide a much more visible presence for our communities in the city centre and flexible spaces for our staff which can adapt to future changes in the organisation."

An official opening of the building will take place later this year.

Are you on crack?

About the only thing that works at Staple Hill are the gates, and even then, only on a good day. :)

How much of that building is actually going to be a 'Police Station' though apart from the front office?

A new site, opposite New Bridewell and the Old Fire Station.

Its not on Bridewell street any more, its a new building on Rupert Street, next to the side entrance to The Bay Horse. Im guessing the police are keeping the parking bays on Bridewell Street though?

A&S are occupying the ground floor and first floor only with the remaining floors being occupied by partner agencies such as Criminal Justice or the Probation Service.
The parking bays opposite stay, there is parking on the ground floor inside for response vehicles, bikes and motorcycles etc

Its very smart...but only time will tell if it is police officer proof!

Well....down on JW a door fell off when I opened it, so I've already proven this station isn't me proof  :p

To be fair, it was knackered anyway :) And it's been happening for a while, we've just not got around to fixing it...well i say we....CID haven't bothered getting it fixed! (Must be too busy on their airwaves :D )
