The Bridewell Police Station
From today, the police station for central Bristol will be moved across the road. The Bridewell is located at 1-2 Bridewell Street, opposite the previous police station (New Bridewell), and will house a new front office, which will be open to the public.
A key part of the police's accommodation programme 'Building for the Future', The Bridewell will provide a much more accessible and welcoming front office for the public and an improved working environment for staff. It will also enable the sale of New Bridewell police station, the release of leased accommodation and improve the police's green footprint in the city.
Being situated in the centre of the city makes it an ideal base from which officers will patrol 24/7. In addition to response teams, The Bridewell will house the local neighbourhood teams, the dangerous offenders unit and a number of our criminal justice teams.
Avon and Somerset Probation will also join us in our new building from May, providing opportunities for us to work closer with our partners.
The enquiry office hours will continue to be as previously:
- Monday to Saturday 8.30am - 4.30pm
It is expected that these will be extended by July 2012 should the demand warrant this.
C/Supt Jon Stratford, Deputy District Commander for Bristol said: "We have been looking to move out of New Bridewell for some time. I'm sure it can't have gone unnoticed that the building needs a significant amount of work to bring it up to an acceptable standard. The cost of doing that was simply prohibitive."
"We are delighted to open our new police station today, which will provide a much more visible presence for our communities in the city centre and flexible spaces for our staff which can adapt to future changes in the organisation."
An official opening of the building will take place later this year.
