Hi All,

I have just applied to L&B for the Regular Positions...I wonder if anyone can shed some light regarding the assessment centre...I have searched for hours but cannot find detailed information...

I would love if anyone can help me out.

Thank you :(

TAKEN FROM L&B POLICE WEBSITE:

Stage 4 – Assessment Centre
  • 0830 – 1230 hours – Candidates will be given a 45-minute appointment at some point in the morning where they will have a personal interview with a member of the Recruitment Team. Although informal, the purpose of this interview is to find out about the candidates skills, experience and motivation for applying. Candidates would be expected to have a reasonable knowledge of Lothian and Borders Police together with any current Policing issues. After interview, candidates will have a hair sample taken by a nurse for Substance Misuse Testing,then can then leave the premises and return at 1300 hours for team-based assessments.
  • 1300 - 1600 hours – A series of assessment exercises will be undertaken by candidates which will assess their abilities in relation to the following competencies;
  • Effective Communication
  • Team working
  • Problem Solving
  • Personal Awareness and Effectiveness
  • Respect for Diversity

    Results will be emailed to candidates within 7 days.

Mmm i know what you mean.

I'm very unsure about the group exercises myself. I'm not overly worried about it though. From what i have managed to figure out, you will be put into groups of 3/4 and given a task to do/complete within a given time frame. I would imagine there are examiners in the room assessing you on how you work as part of a team to complete the task. There's not much you can do to prepare for it. If you are give any instructions then read/listen to them carefully. Listen to your other team members and don't just follow what they do. Make sure you interact with the whole team and try and display the core competencies in all you do.

They should brief you as to what they want, and it isn't really stuff you can prepare for. Don't be a wallflower, get stuck in but don't shut other people out. There are things you can to in advance of the interview, but that should be fairly obvious.

PS. It isn't how you "complete" the task - most groups don't complete it, especially if no-one in the room has done the task before! It is about how you work together to go about trying to complete it.
