Apologies if this has been posted before, couldn't find a thread.

I need to get myself a new cuff holder, the one that was provided broke on first use during conflict training (along with about 10 others in the class!) I currently have the issue one which has two poppers and the cup.

The cuffs I've been issued are Hiatt Speedcuff's

I can't decide between;

1. Peter Jones Speedcuff Holder w/360 swivel - http://www.patrolsto...360-Swivel.html

2. PWL Rigid Cuff Holder with 3 position swivel - http://www.patrolsto...-cup-p-790.html

Anyone have any experience of using either of these?

The first one (Peter Jones), I've heard of cuffing itself to seatbelts etc as the rear cuff isn't covered, and to me it seems less secure. The second one has had nothing but great reviews, and is regarded as one of the only issue bits of kit in the Met worth keeping.

Ah ok! I've heard a few rumours about being able to cuff yourself to a seat, however sounds pretty difficult, the Hiatt's are quite tough and you have to apply a fair bit of pressure to actually cuff something.

Only issue I have with the cup is it can be a bit of a pain to squeeze back in when done.

Go to stores and ask for a new one!?

If its broken before you're even out of training they should be more than happy to replace it!

Yeh, we've been told to have a chat with stores, but it's not that positive if 10 break in the first hour of use. we've been told they're all just as bad!

Which holder are you issued? The second one of the two you posted appears to be the Met issue one or one very similar to it. Its pretty good. If you do decide to purchase the latter of the two make sure you get it in the correct handedness.

Down here in TVP we get issued the Peter Jones P151CR - Leather Handcuff Pouch. So far has worked well for me. Couldn't find an image other than on the Peter Jones own website though.

Go for the second option out of the two you linked to originally. I was issued with it and seems really sturdy, I don't use it any more as I have converted to the full PPE on my vest but, had no issues with it. Just needs a bit of softening to get it to easily close but you just need to sit there for a bit bending it to soften.

Agree about it being unlikely that you'll always find yourself cuffed to the car, however when it does happen, you can guarantee it'll be the worst moment!

With the cup issue, thats true, but less of an issue with leather, eventually it will soften and form to the shape of the cuffs. Also it can be useful as I've heard officers keen on undoing the popper so the cuffs are ready when detaining, with the PWL model they stay to hand, held by the cup and lower retention strap.

My advice is to speak to stores and get a new one... or if you are adamant on buying your own, check that you can use personally bought kit first, last thing you want is to buy something and find out you're not allowed to use it.

http://www.patrolsto...-cup-p-790.html - This one. I bought this and, having tried most other versions of handcuff holders, it is by far the best.

I find the MerPol cuff holders flimsy and don't feel my kit is retained well - as evidenced by the incessant unclipping of my cuff clip during recent PSP training! Much preferred the closed-at-one-end PWL jobby I had in BTP.

Current one (closest I could find):

Thanks guys,

I will call stores to see what the situation is regarding purchasing my own kit. I've heard through other officers in my force that they use some different kit from what is issued.

Think I might end up going for the PWL Rigid Cuff Holder with 3 position swivel

I second what everyone else has said about the PWL cuff holder, it is a sturdy and practical bit of kit. It is the one bit of belt kit I've got that I've never had the slightest issue with.

Out of interest, is yours like the GMP on, with two poppers, one of which can only be opened in a certain way? What about it broke?

Not sure which one GMP are issued with but I'm not sure the outside popper is supposed to completely fall off :p

I have that one aswell, you have to close it in a certain way or it wont work, whilst on a PST weekend it decided to break and one of the popper studs fell off. The best thing is to contact stores and see if they will issue you a new one.
