We get alot of these sorts of things brought to our attention through intel bulletins via email where I work. There are some really crafty people out there!

Old news, I remember reading this intel report when I was a PCSO back in 2007... Come on!

If you stopped someone and they were carrying a mobile phone like THAT in their pocket you know something is seriously wrong - looks like an IBM model from 1997!

The newspaper article that I just found is from 2000.

Now if they could disguise one of these as a Motorola DynaTAC, it would be of legal length!

Thats what I thought too.. I had visions of someone pointing a gun at his head and talking to himself whilst distressed passerby's ran for cover.

Updated version of the 'zip-gun'.

These type of weapons (albeit cruder in design) were made in garages and industrial concerns in many places during the '70s in Northern Ireland. Crude but still an effective form of assasination.
This one appears to be .22LR calibre but they also came in 9mm or even 12Guage.
Modern means of construction obviously offer more creativity in covert designs.

Would you think twice if you saw this in a search?
'Absence of the normal, presence of the abnormal'.

edit: for clarity

As I said, if someone had a phone like that on them, you'd be paying it some attention anyway
