Firstly Well Done!
I'm just booking my PIRT date now too, hopefully if all goes well i'll also be asking to join St Helens.
How did you find the test?

Hi Neil,
Firstly Well Done!
I'm just booking my PIRT date now too, hopefully if all goes well i'll also be asking to join St Helens.
How did you find the test?
Not too bad, it is split into "english", maths and reasoning.
The reasoning ones can be tricky, you have to look at what information you are given and work things out from there.
Good luck with your test,
Let us know how you get on.
Neil.

forgot to add, there is a written part, where you have to write at least half a side of A4 paper with your ideas and thoughts to a question.
Again, not difficult - steady as she goes is the method!

You will find that the majority of the people who go to the Open Evening will sit at the St Helen's table thus making it much more difficult to get into that BCU.
Arron
Hmm, why is that Arron, is St Helens a popular area?
We were told that we are free to wander, so will probably meander and try to chat to as many areas as possible

Nice one, I remember recruitment saying that there would be two "PIRT rooms full" invited
but that each area has it's own table, I live just outside area near Leigh so am not fussed as
long as its not too far to drive each shift.
It surprised me (although i don't know why) how many more women than men were sitting the PIRT
See you on Wed?

Yeah I was surprised by that myself actually!
Be interesting to see how many women got through to the open evening.
Look forward to seeing you there!

I had my PIRT December just gone and I was really surprised how many people were there! Not everyone who passed will attend the open evening, although I recommend going! I don't think I would have passed the interview if I didn't attend the open evening, because you get to speak to special constables and arrange a station visit, so you learn a lot.
Good luck for your interviews

Thanks alot
do you get given much advice about the interview directly at the open evening or do you have to find stuff out for yourself??
You will recieve a "pack" with info about the interview, the job, and a secuirty questionnaire for you to take away. At the open evening they will go through a lot with you about the security questionnaire and the interview and what happens if you pass the interview etc. You will get to sit at a table of what area you would like to work, such as Sefton, Liverpool North etc, and will be able to speak to special constables working in that area and ask them questions. I really enjoyed it and was glad I attended! I also went on a station visit a couple of nights after, and that just made me even more excited haha!
I found the PIRT worse than the interview tbh, but I think thats because I am so terrible at maths and was convinced I failed!

Thanks, I will take a notebook and pen I think - HR "advised strongly" to attend the open evening, I am looking forward to it.

You got any pointers for the interview pickles? Have mine on Thurs and just trying to find out as much as possible about it.
Any info would be appreciated
Did you not attend an open evening? The info and advice was certainly plentiful, was struggling to write fast enough at times.
Can't fault the HR team.

No more than you then.... just gen up on the website, with current issues and initiatives - have info to back up any knowledge seemed to be the number 1 bit of advice.
Fingers crossed for all of us, my interview is Thurs morning.
Looking forward to it, but apprehensive at the same time.

Provides a wealth of knowledge, examples to use during the interview and displays that you have shown some interest in learning the role and preparing for the interview.

I have posted to a question simular to this before, so I have copied and paste what I had replied:
I think it's important to do your research on your force. Find out their policies and initiatives. Understand diversity and do some research of what black and ehtnic minority groups live in some areas of where your force covers, or if such a place has a large gay and lesbian community, or what area has different religions etc. See if you can have a station visit and say that was a part of your preparation for the inteview.
They will ask you for some examples of competencies. Look up "Police core competencies" and this will give you an idea of what you will be asked. You will also be asked on how you would deal with a certain situation, such as if you were on duty and someone was giving you verbal abuse, what would you do?
Do as much preparing and research as you can, but there is a good chance they will ask you questions that you didn't prepare for, just try and answer them the best you can. They will try and guide you into the right direction for your answer.
Just don't give stupid answers such as you'd arrest someone after you've warned them once for giving you verbal abuse! Or claim you know something when you don't, because they will ask what do you know about it, and then you'll look bad!
Good luck!
