To be fair, it was used as part of an acronym, I think he can be exempted for that purpose!

In Norfolk, we were told not to carry our warrant card `off duty` until we are `Confirmed` as a Special, ie out of probation and that this is to protect us because we have not
yet gained the skills, knowledge/experience required to be dealing with things alone with no radio and ppe. The only exception to this i guess is if your popping into the station
to drop something off etc, just incase your id needs to be verified.

Yes, cheeky git. ;)

Makes sense I suppose. As warranted Constable's we're allowed to use our powers whilst off duty and not in uniform, with no PPE, yet when on duty in full PPE and uniform we're not allowed to go off on our own unless we've been signed off as independent!

true but id imagine all forces advise specials and regulars not to deal with anything off duty unless its reeeaallly nesessary and they are sure its something they can handle. i think the term used with the met is being a "credible witness"

Sometimes I wonder if some members of this forum are actually officers and not school kids.

Can we try and treat other members with a bit more respect please? If someone makes a mistake there is no reason to belittle or attack them.

We were taught ISLAWFUL last year

I - Identity
S - Station

L - Looking For
A - Act
W - Warrant
F - Form
U - U Are Detained
L - Lawful Grounds

Could have the two L's mixed up, but it's important to do IS first.

I think this is better than GOWISLEY.

Never really had an issue with GOWISELY and as the 1st version i learnt, will be the statistically the more obviously thing i go for if pushed. The real acid test is that someone learns the respective lesson from what ever they are learning from. IS LAWFUL or GOWISELY don't matter, as long as you are lawful and get in the points...if you just remember the bits without any, then screw learning either.
