Who's a lover of decent beer?
What's your poison, a good brew, and what's in your stash!?

Tonight I have had Durham Brewery:
Cloister (Bitter) which is 4.5%
and White Stout. a white stout yes! at 7.2% punchy but so easy to drink, very fruity. a pale colour and very morish..
If i can manage i have a 'Tempatation' which is a 10% Imperial Stout and a 7.0% IPA Bombay 106

Im on an ale trail this year. I have in 2012 had 56 different ales, aiming for 366 this leap year.

Some more of my ones i love
  • Brewdog Punk IPA
  • Brewdog Alice Porter
  • Brewdog Hardcore IPA
  • Brakespear Oxford Gold
  • Mordue IPA
  • Mikkeller Black Hole - a 13.1% Imperial with coffee hints, honey and vanilla...

anyone else!? share your recommendations be they bottle, keg or cask.

Old Peculier or Sneck Lifter both hit the spot for me, although not too many or you'll have a thick head in the morning!

I like a bit of Spitfire, Hobgoblin and Old Speckled Hen. Really though, I tend to like pretty much any ale. After I started drinking them though I find it a lot harder to enjoy lager..

same here, i used to be a lagerboy, but i drank ales for the names, i laughed at 'Radgie Gadgie' (a geordie term) seen it tasted good, now i cant do cheap fizzy lager.
Hobgoblin is nice, have you had King Goblin (6.6%)
i so like a SN Spitfire but it's not quite the same it's not bottle conditioned anymore.

I like Spitfire...

The only Shepherd Neame brew I like is Bishops Finger. I find Spitfire a wishy washy ale.

King goblin? I'm going to try that for the name alone!

I also like home-brewed ales by a small bar near where I'm living currently; it's a shame you can only get them on site.

Maka, you know my thoughts on BD Hardcore IPA!!

I quite enjoyed the Punk IPA. Got some Castle Rock Elsie Mo and Adnams Gunhill to sup after work tomorrow and I may well nip over to Tesco for some more on the way home.

If you get a chance to try any Moorhouse's brews then I recommend Blond Witch and Pride of Pendle, two excellent beers.

Castle Rock Screech Owl is also excellent if you like your IPA.

You got a stash of Hardcore IPA yet, before i start tonight hoping to go get a stash of Punk to stock up with.

Cambridge Bitter from the Elgoods Brewery as a nice hoovering bitter

The Wolf Brewery 'Battle of Britain' is the guest at my local at the moment - very tasty, and for every pint sold the Brewery donates to RAF charities. So I feel virtuous as I order another pint !!

I think i have only tried one of their beers, but on the lookout for more in the pubs.

I got some badgers on offer at ASDA must admit myself was not impressed by the fursty ferret. Was a bit to fizzy, but as I have already said to someone else, im always up for giving it a second chance.

The Asda Gentleman Jack is really good for their own label. Any ideas what it is a re-badge (if it is) of.
For example Tesco Finest* Double American IPA is a 9.2% DIPA but just a Brewdog re-badge.

Rocking that offer though, Sad thing is aside a few badgers and a few of the 'generic ales you get everywhere' I think i am about 80% at least through asdas ale selection.
Really looking to get up to a shop that sells at £9.99 a bottle Tokyo* which is 18%.
It'd be amazing to see how they can pack flavour into something like that.

as much as I love a pint of good ale down the pub, my love for craft beers and the special ones are growing.

I'm also loving American craft beer, and imports such as Brooklyn Lager, Samuel Adams Boston Lager, and Blue Moon.
Had blue moon when I was over in NYC and loved it. (even if it is coors brewed!)

There was a brewery called "Heartland Brewery' who had steakhouses and bars including one right under the empire state building which became my local there. they made their own and they were amazing.
just a little sad you don't see them out of the US maybe even out of NYC.

Yeah the Gentleman Jack is really nice, I'd never heard of it before let alone tasted it, but it was a very pleasant surprise.

I've yet to go to a beer festival or any of the like, but I'll get there....I already get called Granddad for not drinking as much larger when on a night out., sorry guys and girls, I have a bit of taste Posted Image

Blue moon is brewed in Canada isn't it? I tried it the other week and it's certainly not to my tastes!
As for more American beers worth drinking, any of they Anchor Steam ones are excellent, there is a Beer and a stout of theirs I've tried and they are far to easy to drink!!
http://www.anchorbrewing.com/

Brooklyn brewery also do some quite nice beers, but you don't seem to find then very often, but if you do stumble across one of their brews, give it a try. The Brooklyn larger is really good, but nothing like larger and the Pale ale isn't to be sniffed at!

Still can't beat a bottle of dog though!

EDIT: Maka, head to The New Bridge Pub in Newcastle if you ever get a chance, they have a good selection of ales for a reasonable price.
