I was under the impression that this third method is not going to be widely promoted (such as an advert on the external jobs page) and is more aimed at the Recruitment and Events office going to special events to target specific groups. This is what was said at a Ask the Commissioner roadshow I went to.

However i guess it all depends how you look at it so you're right JS.

Think now we all have answered the question, let's get back to the OP? Anyone going for PCSO then?

I remember the days when pc open days were running at 2 a week!! In 2008 when i first applied (withdrew to go to uni) the hall was absolutely packed full.

those days will come again

4 years since then. The last big recruitment drive was 2003. 5 years difference. The Met can't not recruit for too much longer I shouldn't think.

I'm somewhat surprised they have opened up recruitment now but I guess it makes sense. By the time they process the applications and send out day one interviews, the Olympics will be over. My old borough alone dropped from around 100 PCSO's to about 60 from the last wave of PC recruitment including 2 station PCSO's.

As an ex-PCSO (5 years service) I will be the first one to say in my honest opinion the money would be far better sent on PC recruitment. Even if they recruited half the amount. However, it's better than nothing and I hope they specifically recruit SPCSO's to fill the gaps.

Nothing wrong with applying for a PCSO role (if your aim is to eventually join the regs). If I wanted to join the job and was not in employment or in a day job I just didnt want to do, I would carefully consider it. From my experience, opportunities to apply for the regs always pop up for PCSOs with a year or so in regardless (and your getting paid decent while your waiting around).

The MSC is the other route in (but you cannot live on expenses) so is not suitable for everyone.

I've put an application in, reason being; I want to get out of retail as a job and I'd rather be paid for doing something I would hopefully enjoy.

Just filling out the application form now - but I have a long think ahead of me and what I truly want to do. Money speaks volumes for me!, so is it a no brainer for me to become a PCSO?

I have until any start dates given to me to decide and I'm sure by then I will be a for filling my role as a special (I would then obviously have to resign that role). I cant see any training for PCSO till after the Olympics anyway, so as long as I pass my KEE's I should be fine.

Then I just have the decision on what I want to do!

Out of order, plus they will be getting an IPLDP Hendon course.

I dunno about the IPLDP coming back, this one is only going ahead because Boris wants more officers with it being the election year and I think they're starting to panic with the Olympics coming up and it is a quicker training course

I've deleted some pointless bickering from earlier in the thread. I think the only thing we can be certain of is death and taxes! Oh wait - that doesn't apply here. :aok:

Good luck to those who are hoping to join as a regular. I know of several off this forum who have done it recently and if you are determined enough you will get there. :aok:

More pointless bickering removed. Come on folks - it's not too much to ask for you to be civil to each other. If you can't (or won't), then please refrain from posting.

It all depends on where you work really, with shift allowances etc

Im seriously thinking about sticking my application in. Its decent money and I still believe I can become a PC via this route.

I've encouraged my brother to go for it but the only thing that worries him is that he may have to wait until his 2 year probation is finished till he can apply for regs - to be honest with the way things are I can't see that being a bad thing, let things sort themselves out a bit as far as cuts go, and you get paid.
