I was under the impression that they were phasing out PCSO's in the MET? None the less, I am all for more PCSOs! Obviously we still want many more regulars but its fantastic to see the role of PCSO is still going strong!

Interesting they will only accept the first 2500 applications, obviously anticipating a lot of interest!

Good luck in advance to all those who apply!

This is the last of the 10 year deal bought in by central government to pay for PCSOs, so basically the Met has to use it.

I'm not surprised by this as the Met are loosing roughly 1,100 PCSOs this year becoming PCs, but apparently there is 420 spaces so they are cutting back the numbers for certain.

I imagine that some spending is still ring fenced so it makes sense. Also if you look at how small some SNTs are it make sense to use these new PCSOs to fill the spaces up. I wonder who will go for it.

Maybe they can recruit some more station PCSOs ... Increasingly PCs are being abstracted from frontline duties for this role which can easily be filed by civilian staff and in most cases the SPCSOs are far better in the job than a police officer down to the fact they do it day in day out and know exactly what the role involves

Seeing as most of the front office staff on my borough are being axed in the summer I reckon PCSOs will be filling these spaces. To be honest I agree with Fenix, I've been SRO and clueless yet the staff and PCSOs are fantastic at their jobs. Why take a copper off the streets?

Sro isnt thaaat bad. im on a 5 week posting at the moment. you get used to it. if ylure stuck, find or call a supervisor, or use the sro handbook! Its actually really useful.

And if you have no idea, there is the "yeah erm...call 101?" option!

Im not sure if they are going to be recruiting PCSOs to do front office postings, there is a rumour going round that the font offices will be manned by police officers who are long term sick and are just sat in an office hiding somewhere, which hasn't gone down too well apparently, plus with the planned station closures I think there will be less front offices open to the public

I've done SRO before a couple of times. I spent the entire shift confused and phoning up the SRO at the other station on our borough to ask what to do!

Wanting to move to London with a position in the police so thought I'd apply considering PCSO's are as much likely to become a regular as a special. I phoned the number to be to told because I am already employed by the Met I had to apply through an aware terminal. Which I don't have access to until mid March! Grrrr

Incorrect Matt. You can only apply internally if you have 12 months service and as you are banned from applying for PC or any internal job for two years of you join as police staff/PCSO, you will not be in a more higher bracket than MSC to become PCs. You need to remember the reason PCSOs are currently becoming PCs is because they got shafted years back when they passed Day 1 and 2's. The met will not create an internal process for PCSOs to apply for Day 1 PC over MSC for the years to come. This is not me thinking I know how BHH is thinking, he stated that and made it clear at the recent Police and Crime Committee (Old MPA). So don't go thinking it will put you in a better stead than you currently are.

I didn't mention being put in a better stead. By my post I meant that when it comes to them recruiting for PC's apart from this 2 year thing for police staff and PCSO's when it comes to recruitment from specials and PCSO's we're all on a level playing field. I would rather be paid and working in a police station everyday as a PCSO than be a 30 hour a month special, I feel it would be more beneficial to me personally. I am no longer in any rush to become a PC, I have a good 5 years to think about it and sort it out. So right now I would rather be a PCSO than a special and look to apply to the regs in a few years time.

That's fine and it's a personal choice regarding which direction of the vast amount of career options the met offer you go down. We all know things change fast in the met but at the moment I don't see none PC day 1 PCSOs being offered the chance to apply for regs. We already know from a past The Job quote that they did not hot their first conversion market with PCSOs and the new recruitment module is MSC to PC and PCSOs with a Day 1 pass mark only. Not all PCSOs.

Just saying but good luck with whatever you choose and wish you all the best. Be a shame to lose you from team.

However it's got to be said its such an unknown situtation with recruitment at the moment, all this could change tomorrow without prior notice.
