Hi guys,

I'm wondering if you can help me?

I don't know what the difference between Gateway and Foundation training is?!? Also, what's Induction A and Induction B??

Can someone clear this all up for me, I just need to know what the 'crack' with training is cos I'm confused!

Many thanks!

Hi fidel,
Basic way i looked at it was the gateway is the theory side. You will learn what legal power you have(eg section 117 of pace- for use of force), what points you have to prove to be able to use that power/arrest (eg- having a suspicion to search someone, not because you feel like it)
When you can and can not use powers (in uniform or out). The Foundation is the practial side for example you will do a search lesson, you won't go in to detail with what powers to use because gateway teaches you them before but you will get taught how to do a search on someone, and watch a few videos.
Hope this clears something's up, this is a basic version but there is more to it :D

Just to add to the answer about Gateway and Foundation training. Induction A takes place to introduce the Gateway training. For this, you are very much a 'civilian' and will not be issued with any uniform. On successful completion of the Gateway element of training, you will be notified to collect the initial uniform issue, then attend Induction B which is in uniform. Induction B will explain in some detail what happens during Foundation training and the expectations of you as a Special Constable to get you prepared for Attestation.
