As Seb Coe is the Chairman of LOCOG, who appointed him and who is he accountable to?

He was head of the London Bid for the Olympics I assume that is why he became the chairman of LOCOG

Unsure as to who he is accountable to though

I don't know for certain but there was an Olympics Minister, so I would imagine them... This has been merged into the Culture, Media and Sport position which Jeremy Hunt (of Radio 4 fame) currently holds.

He's also Baron Coe, of the House of Lords.

So he will be accountable to parliament and government.

I read somewhere last year that this man is paid 'top dollar' (i.e. more than the Prime Minister) for his services in this role. He will have a PA/Secretary and no doubt a chauffeur driven car too! With all the austerity measures the country is now facing, I think this should be reviewed.

Appointment to head the London 2012 bid would had be by British Olympic Association which is independent and privately funded as they're the one responsible for the bid. I assume the local government of the bidding city, Greater London Authority or a body under it would had be either part of the appointment process or consulted at the very least.

As head of the winning bid, he was then appointed as Chairman of LOCOG. LOCOG is a private company by guarantee with a majority of private funding. According to LOCOG 2011 accounts:

The Company is accountable to its stakeholders the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media, and Sport, the Mayor of London and the BOA, under the terms of a Joint Venture Agreement.

Surely not! After all......we're all in this together. Dave said so.

Quite. A PPP, so only part funded by HM Government. That clears that up then. :)
