I have heard on the grapvine J district is going to be running some driving courses for specials. Is this true and if so will it be communicated to other districts?

Nasty rumours. The training course of old has gone. The new one is still being decided.

Until you hear on ESIBS or via Force Email. IGNORE ALL RUMOURS

I couldn't possibly reveal that info Gelf, obviously they're not that reliable.

Reado the rumours about redundancy in the force were true and that wasn't too long ago, some rumours have credance not necessarily this one though.

Driving course rumours?!!

STOP THE PRESSES!

 I kid. Seriously, until you're sat in the driver's seat on your course, don't believe a word anyone says about driving courses. There is no greater source of rumour in the Special Constabulary except possibly that incident with the cow and the Vito keys.

But you all know about that.

I was in E district team meeting last week, the AO said that the course has been scrapped, but now any officer with a full DL will automatically be able to drive A-B, but don't do it until it is in writing.

Wether this is just for E district, I'm not sure!

But it was definitely said!

A host of interesting information can be found on eSibs in the District Officers Group meeting minutes the latest shown from Jan 14th. I ask my DO about once a week and the reponse for the last month has been that the new policy is "days away". I'll believe it when i'm sitting behind the wheel of a marked police vehicle.

It has been talked about, but that's as far as it's gone at the moment. Nothing (as far as I am aware) has actually be set in stone as yet.

Simon...well spotted and worth a plus 1...thats as close to the truth as anyone is going to get. The DO Group consists of all DO's, the SC Co-ordinator and Chief Officer. Anything anyone else says or hears will be rumour as this is the forum that will and has discussed the policy!

Perhaps more people should read the minutes to ensure they are well informed before spreading rumours to others!

I think the general consensus, and to avoid rumors spreading like wildfire is to only believe that there will be a driving course, is when your sat behind the wheel of the patrol car, then you can believe it :D

+1 for Simon though Posted Image

Bristol Airport

Which is bizarre as I think he is the guy that did our H&S talk in training where he said he was trained previously but not allowed to carry one because Specials can't. So either that rule has changed and specials can now carry Taser or he's doing the training again and still won't be allowed to carry one. I hope it's the former.

I do like reading those minutes, our J district one has some interesting points on it

Bristol Airport

That doesn't surprise me, all officers up at the Airport are Taser trained, but i do find it interesting they are now branching out for a Special - I imagine it's due to it's location.

I was advised by our corporate support team (last year) that if I provided my driving documents they would take a copy, send them to right department, and then I could drive a police vehicle and a MOP vehicle for police purposes but not compliant stops. This lasted all of 2 weeks until they came back to me and said I could no longer drive as they had been told by specials management that I wasn't allowed.

Not sure what's going on but it seems to me the general policy is already in place (which is what I was told by corporate support) and it's bureaucracy that's creating the barriers. I'm sure (*hoping) that there is more to it than that but it would be helpful for someone up the ladder to explain what on earth is going on rather than 'we're developing a specials driving policy' since, by all accounts, a general driving policy was already created last year.

I thought you said pace! Hence I was a bit confused. No I don't think they did, or I don't recall it, also we were only taught to do our own statements eg arrest statement and specifically told we were not to take witness statements on district without further training

The gave us a Introduction to PEACE , with some ideas on how to question a witness, obviously we cant interview a suspect but it works a treat. He said there was nothing stopping us taking witness statements. Its the same principle as your own but in a way that you ask the right question and not leading questions.

They must have taken note of all the feedback then, luckily over time I've been out with some very supportive regs who had me taking statements from day 1 and were slightly bemused when I said I wasn't trained in it
