Hi all,

So, I went for an eye test at the end of 2011, as part of my application to Staffs. I'm slightly short-sighted in my right eye, as close to normal as short sighted gets (1:6 I think?). Anyway, I want a cheap pair of glasses, just for my lectures and stuff, because during the eye test I did find it a bit easier to read stuff with the right lenses things in (better with, or without? One, or two?). Anyway, I found these- They're the exact style I want, but do the come with everything I need? I've never needed glasses before so i don't know what I should get etc.

They're cheap, which is what I want, but will I have to pay extra for lenses etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

If you have been accepted you might be entitled to glasses from the force.

Those ones include the lenses, a cloth, case and come with a scratch resistant coating, which is now standard for almost all Specsavers glasses I believe, or at least what I was told when I last bought some.

Really? Is that generic across England & Wales or on a force by force basis?

Ignore about varifocals and bifocals - they are for different types of bad eyesight!

If you are just short sighted, then you will be able to get the normal (cheapest) lenses although I recommend making sure you get coated lenses, as otherwise they will scratch easily.

In terms of prices, if your optician offers a compete glasses price (i.e. including lenses) then it will be flagged as such. In most cases you have to pay for the lenses seperately, they then send the frames off that you have chosen and put the correct lenses in. It's best if you buy in shop as they measure up your eye compared to the glasses, which means they get the centre of the lens in the right place.

from looking at that pair, they look like they are all inclusive which is a great price. My latest pair (I've been wearing glasses for 14 years) cost me just over £200!

Those glasses come with lenses. You wont need to pay anything extra (don't let them talk you in to thinner lenses upgrades etc - they wont make any difference for a low prescription like yours especially if you only wear them occasionally.

By the way - go and try them on in a shop first. Glasses come in different sizes and if you dont get the right size they either wont be comfortable or will fall off your face all the time!
