Currently there are intakes about to start from people who got cut off after passing everything the first time round.

There are a lot of rumours going around about recruitment, but as far as I am aware there is little clarity and actual fact.

There is a huge amount of people that passed their assesment centres before the cut off that are still in the pot and many specials that are awaiting dates. I had a guy on my team that joined a couple of weeks ago as a reg and he passed in 2009!!! Plus with the new degree scheme coming in that will add to numbers so be very unsure if they will open the window especially with all the cuts.

I heard that training Intakes for specials are backed up till June at the moment.

Last weekend there were over 120 specials training at the same time!

I'm currently earmarked for a July intake so even further.

Hoping to move to an earlier one as the only reason I can't start earlier is the very very slim chance I might have an exam on one of the Saturday's.

Was due to start at the beginning of may.

Hi All,

It's been a while, so thought I would drop by and say hello in here.

After a long recruitment process, pending a successful fitness test later this month, I am due to join TVP as a PC, starting on an intake in early June.

After the training, I will be based in the Aylesbury LPA.

Anyone else joining? I look forward to meeting new colleagues and friends. :)

Cheers,
James

Hi Teresa,

Thanks! Yes, I've been a Special for around 4 years. I never intended to join the regulars - but I obviously caught the bug!

PM sent...

When did you apply for a regular post out of interest? Haven't seen them recruiting for a long time.

Evening!

I dont know if anyone has heard, but TVP are planning on opening up recruitment for regs, however, there are quite a few requirements that go along side it, some of which include:

-Must have been a special for at least a year
-Must have IPS
-Must have at least 2 A Levels

Try not to go too mad..

Everyone that needed to know, knew, and the e-mail was quite clear that it's for internal applicants only. Personally I'm not convinced it needed posting here.

You still need the A levels even when you are already a SC? That's harsh. So you could have two SC's one who has been in for 5 years and one who has been in for 12 months. The officer with 5 years service could be a better officer however he can't apply to become a regular but the other officer can because he did an A level in a subject possibly many years ago in a subject that has nothing to do with policing. So I they are saying to the officer with 5 years service "your good enough to work for free but not good enough to get paid".

I agree with Adam on this one. I think this thread should be removed..

That is an extremely unhelpful post, hence the downvote. This website is for information relevant to the special constables, and I see that information as very relevant to special constables and potential police officers in the UK.

Hi Nickyc

I am not sure where you are getting the IPS requirement from but this is definitely not the case.

You do however need to have completed a minimum of 208 hours from 1st April 2011 to 30th March 2012.

The email you will have received was fairly self explanatory.

Kind regards

Lufty

The information posted has been sent to EVERY Volunteer within Thames Valley Polce, from my understanding. The application process is NOT open to external applicants, and therefore should NOT be posted on a public website.

What about people who don't have access to the system all day everyday so wouldn't know?

I have to agree with wanabe on that one. There's nothing wrong with saying publicly that TVP are recruiting internally only, and not all SCs go to their stations on a daily basis to read all emails

Whilst I appreciate that you want the best chances of applying for a regular position in your force, I think the idea of keeping any recruitment options from the other members of this forum goes against the ethos of the site. If the recruitment is only open to internal applicants, I can't quite see the harm in it being posted as information, with that proviso. For instance, many people viewing this site will be potential special constables choosing a police force, and the fact that TVP is recruiting internally may influence that decision.

I know the recruitment situation is frustrating, but it would be depressing if that led to people deliberately withholding information from other potential applicants for personal gain.

umm, i've only had it on my TVP one. so as everyone in my intake. also, to clarify one thing, I'm an eligible person and I'm intending to apply. so the more people apply; the worse chance I have. nevertheless, I'd like to think that someone would have told me that this thing is happening if I hadn't read that email today
