From PoliceOracle (Click!)

Police Constable (Full Time)
£22,661 rising to £32,643
Port of Liverpool
We are seeking to recruit individuals who have been successful since December 2008 in passing the Home Office approved assessment centre.

Unfortunately I can't see any more as you need to be signed up to see the rest. Maybe somebody else can get in to see the rest?

Definitely something for Specials who have passed to get into the regs but were halted by the recruitment freeze

Job Title: Police Constable
Location: Port of Liverpool
Salary: £22,661 rising to £32,643
Start Date: T.B.A.

‘The Port of Liverpool Police is a properly constituted force with identical legislative powers of those of any other Police Force, plus the special powers granted through the Port of Liverpool By Laws’

We are seeking to recruit individuals who have been successful since December 2008 in passing the Home Office approved assessment centre, but due to factors that may include budget constraints, have been unable to gain employment at their selected force.

If you are one of those individuals and are able to commence initial training in early April 2012 please forward, in the first instance, an expression of interest and CV (must include details of sickness record for the previous 3 years) to:

This will confirm the date that you were successful in the assessment centre and the force that you applied to. Short listed candidates will be given further information. Owing to an expected high demand for a limited number of vacancies the force at this stage will not enter into individual queries.

Police Officers appointed to the Port of Liverpool Police attract a starting salary of £22,661 rising to £32,643.

The closing date for receipt of expressions of interest and CVs is 17:00 hours Wednesday 25th January 2012

The Port of Liverpool Police website is currently offline being updated.

Rachel Holden, Port of Liverpool Police Administration.

To apply for this position please email your CV via the link below.

I don't see how these small constabularies can be sustainable in the long term though, so I'd personally think carefully before applying for this role before, say, the CNC roles which are being advertised still and which will always remain in some form or another.

Theyre based in Liverpool :aok:

One thing to remember is that you can *NOT* transfer out of them to another force and enter that force at the same level

They are police officers when on the port or (i think) within 1 mile of the port or land owned by the port which includes the Ship Canal right into Manchester however I do not know how often they get up that way, when not within the port or its limits then they do not have any powers I believe.

It is more a security thing but they do obviously have police powers, think of it like being a sea version of the CNC except without guns or extended juristiction

Some other info from a couple of years ago

It may not be current but should be pretty much the same

They are covered by the IPCC

There is a formal MOU with Merseyside

Established under Mersey Docks and Harbour (Police) Order 1975 SI No. 122

46 sworn officers - 40 Uniform 6 CID (In 1977 they had over 170)

Port Police will deal with all investigations that are minor, if it falls under a serious nature such as serious assault/armed incidents then Merseyside police will deal

Residential areas of the port will be policed by Merseyside

Port police will use local police custody

They will deal with all their own case files

Merseyside may offer training

Heres a link to the last time they were recruiting http://www.policespe..._1#entry1898474

I've got to be honest and say that I do like the idea of smaller, more regulated constabularies compared to the large 'all reaching' forces that we have now.

It'll never happen but i'd like to see more of them if im honest, so long as they are regulated by the IPCC and recieve the proper training why not?

If the Government looked at this it would probably end up saving alot of money if it went down the lines of privitising certain aspects of policing to certain, large corporations/institutions/boards - much in the same vein as BTP currently operates.

They have asked me to provide my sickness record on my CV, how do I do this? Is a case of simply writing on it 0 days sick?

Yeah, just say 3 years employment 0 instances of sick leave. Or 4 instances of sick leave totalling 8 days. Or something to that effect.

It does look a bad little job and I would probably consider it if was near me and I wasn't already in the police.

I agree. Whilst nobody is going to say that BTP are perfect ;) the rail staff are generally happy with the dedication BTP officers provide. I imagine people working in the Port are glad that when police are called it is PoL police officers attending who know the ins and outs of the industry rather than whichever bobby turns up from MerPol (not slagging HO forces off at all by the way it is just each environment has its own way of doing things.) Liverpool also used to have a very respected Parks Police up until 1970s.

Some find that larger police forces are better and more accountable, some find the idea of smaller local police forces better. Somewhere down the middle lies the answer I imagine.

If you're serving with Merseyside Police (as your signature suggests) why are you looking at joining such as small force with less varied jobs?

Or if you're no longer serving with Merseyside Police, why not, and would the PoLP have you?

The latter. And why not, I can only try.

Yes I have. Im ex RAF Police and North Wales Police, but been I have been in private sector employment for some time, and want to get back into Policing. Im currently serving as a Navy Reservist, so work amongst shipping and ports also.

I passed NPIA at Ryton in 2009 for the CNC, they offered me Sellafield with a start date last year, but I had to turn down the offer due to problems with my ex partner and childcare (Sellafield's a long way from North Wales).

I applied via the Police oracle on line e-form, and they emailed a proper application form to me. I submitted it just befor the deadline.

You?

Oh dear, just had a letter from Port Of Liverpool Police, due to unforseen circumstances, their budget has been cut until the foreseeable future, but they are retaining my application form on file.

Anyone else had anything similar?
