Hi guys,

I have applied to Leicestershire Specials, hoping for an intake this year if I am successful. Anyone else recently applied? I opted for Leicestershire as they are my home county, plus they seem to have managed their finances reasonably well, recruiting regs from their Specials to fill the spots left through natural wastage.

Hello good sir, Im Steve im just about to submit my app for the specials, and like you hope to get a training date for this year. Although I have no plans to join up as a reg.

Good luck Steve! Really hope we both get through! Training dates are going to be well down the line unfortunately though.

Indeed I think they will be in October I gave HR a call and they said if there was enough people they would do a August or September start. Where are you looking to work?

I only applied on Monday and have found out I passed the initial sift today, quick turn around! First step in my journey to become a Reg

That's great news about potentially bringing training dates forward. My current address is actually down South but I am back in Leicestershire every weekend. I am hoping for Hinckley due to its location quite near the M40 and it being only 35mins from my house. I do know other people that work at a more local station to the address I return to but feel I would be best served working in a new area, particularly as it would mean I do not come across those troublemakers in my home town. Ultimately though I will do my best to go where I am put. Next stage is assessment centre end of Jan/Feb.

Ah good to hear they get back so quick, im not sending my app till the end of Feb, Im waiting till I move house just so it makes things easier for contact details on the app. Glad to hear you got through the first stage.

Best of luck with the applications and assessment centre guys. I've been a special for a year or so now, working out of Leicester city centre.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about the assessment centre and training, there are a fair number of Leicestershire specials on the forum and we're usually happy to help. Assuming there's no money in it of course.

Thanks mate. I sent back my candidate registration form on Saturday. Not sure when my assessment centre will be as of yet, looking around March perhaps.

May I ask how you are finding being a Special and are you planning on joining as a reg? On that note have you heard of any potential in-takes?

I've been a special for a year or so now, working out of Leicester city centre.

Been a 'watching' member for a bit but saw this post and thought it be appropriate for my first! I recently applied to Leicestershire Specials because I am at Loughborough University and as Leicestershire were actively advertising for specials it seemed right to go for. Handed my application in on 30th of November, I was short listed and now have been given a date for my assessment process day, (21st January). All quite exciting!

I've really enjoyed myself, it has its ups and its downs like anything else. You'd never be able to tell that most of us enjoy it by the amount of moaning we can do. It's not like anything I'd ever done before, I found it difficult early on but as you get used to working with the same people and get the confidence up it gets easier and far more enjoyable.

I do want to join as a reg and I'm currently looking around for recruitment, there are very few on at the moment, but most forces I have gotten in touch with intend to look at recruitment towards the end of 2012, that said Derby have said that they are planning to publish a recruitment plan for regs in February.
