Whilst the force maybe saving money not having to run an assessment centre it certainly isn't saving any money having to train any specials, pcso's, members of public or non home office force applicants from the group that have been sneakily approached as they will all need extensive computer training, law and process training, uniform and equipment, driving courses etc etc

It still strikes me as ludicrious that the force wasted money 18 months ago for those that applied and passed or failed the first stages.

Again it's more of a case of the longer they keep specials as specials the more free policing they get.

Many Specials already have the required computer skills and training, and have already done driving courses. They obviously have certain parts of their uniform and equipment, which they retain on transferring to the regulars, and have a basic knowledge of the law which is built upon in training and giving them a jump start on people starting from scratch (not only that they have practical experience in applying the law, which I am sure you agree is totally different to just knowing the law!)

There was nothing sneaky about it. The force have never hidden their preferences recruit wise

The amount of time people are kept as Specials is irrelevant, because if they transfer to the regulars their position is filled by a new recruit, so the amount of 'free' policing they get stays constant, no matter where they employ people from

Agreed, Apart from uniform (other than epps we are same) then not much saving at the moment, only if you have passed basic or standard driving course then a small saving in the scheme of life. Even specials with average to long service and many other IT skills and courses completed etc would still need to do the same training (and probably repeat some of the courses or choose too) as for instance a PCSO or MOP who joins and is on the same new Reg course. Just ask some of our Regs who were specials and joined during last intake.

Until the planned training for specials hits the required mark to properly reduce the Initial training required as a Reg then savings will not be huge to the force. That will come though as is being planned.

It makes sense to look at transferees first and i presume those who passed assessment centres at other forces.

If you just passed the paper sift in 2010 then maybe there is a case to hold that over and offer to divert those people straight to asessment centres (seems to make sense)but iam not qualified whatsover to know how long those paper sifts are valid for etc. However you could argue, that say if you got 2 A's and 2 B's in last paper sift and passed they may have less spaces and therefore have to up the bar this time to possibly 3 or 4 A's to get into an assessment centre. So maybe another round of paper sifts will really attract those with excellent the very highest scores ( That does not always relate to the best officer in my view but that is life and all businesses have to draw a line in the sand for competancy level on an application form). I presume HR have already decided all this and we love speculation on these forums.

As my colleague states Specials training and recruitment is a continuos flow and although we will loose some specials (good and not so good to the regs) in this recruitment drive that has always been the case and will never change.

Just Apply and give it your best shot.

Good luck and stay frosty

Can anyone shed any light on this? Have they only opened recruitment internally?

My housemate spoke to recruitment today. There will be information posted on the Suffolk Police Website in the next few days on how to get a pack.

From another website... there's rumours that the applications for MOPs will only be available for a few hours! I don't know how true that is

Sounds good for those awaiting packs.

Dont know any facts but like last time it is a simple equation of only so many packs available and once they have all been requested then game over. That could take hours but probably minutes if there are truck loads of MOP all watching and waiting with baited breath.

One for you IT geniuses out there, Suffolk send their application packs in a PDF format which you cannot add text to. Is there anyway to convert these into a file you can fillout on a computer? I know adobe do a word converter but you have to pay for it or something, without looking how much it would cost me I'm not up for that.

My last resort is getting out the ink and one of those big feather things, isit a quill??
