Hi Steve,

I tried to call this morning but the operator advised that the number (Ext.) is not valid? Do you have another number you could message me?

Many thanks; looking forward to speaking soon,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

That's a Mobex number, rather than an extension. If you tell the operator that then they should be able to direct your call.

Sam.

OK, thanks Sam. I'll try again tomorrow.

On another note, I found out today that our training is due to commence late this year / early next year due to the Olympics. Apparently there are some resource challenges as a result. I am rather disappointed if I'm honest - was looking forward to progressing a little sooner ... Posted Image

Unfortunately with finances as they are, the force is already massively stretched. The Olympics mean that we loose more officers to support the forces hosting the Olympics. Meaning that officers that are normally in non-front line roles (like trainers) now have to take up front line positions to backfill the shortages.
It is very much the same situation nationally. It is unfortunate, but the Olympics is one of the biggest policing challenges in memory.

Try not to be disheartened, it's just one of those things. On one of the similar threads in the GlosPol section of the forums, ForestCop mentioned that there may be something in the works to keep you keen in the mean time, although you probably know more about that than I do, or will do soon.

Sam.

Just to avoid you hunting for detail that isn't there yet, this is still an intent rather than any firm plans. But it's definitely something we want to do: we are well aware how long the gap is.

So it's all quiet on the Western Front ... :)

Does anyone have any further progress updates?

I don't know what update you have been sent, or by whom, but just to say that we (by which I mean the SC managers) do plan to set some things up. It is taking a while though and I am sorry about that. Hopefully you have been given some details about the next stages in the formal process, what I am talking about is more informal and locally based.

The email basically explained about the olympics taking up time and that when we have a start date for training we can continue with application process, and mentioned medically questionnaire. and was sent on behalf of rescourcing team(can send you a copy if you'd like to see it)

Look forward to hearing about what the SC managers are trying to set up if they are able to :aok:

So the Olympics is over - what a fantastic closing ceremony!

Hopefully we'll now be moving forward soon to the next stage ...

Well some good news whilst waiting - I went for an eye check / test and mentioned joining the Specials; she advised that I am absolutely fine and she is happy to provide the form (apparently there is a standard one that she completes) for a period up to 6 months before she would need to test again.

I'm pleased as I have not been tested in depth since leaving the RAF - so it's good to know ... despite knocking on the gates of middle age life!

I'm really chuffed to bits - a very good friend of mine has just had just sent me a picture of his passing out parade with Hertfordshire Constabulary today.

He applied the same time I applied to Gloucestershire - suffice to say I'm a little envious of his progress :scotcop:

In way of an update, I have had various emails over the last week or so detailing date(s) for my medical and also my fitness assessment. I also received an email today with the proposed training dates for a November intake.

Looks like things are moving along now which is good news!

Pleased things are moving. I am aware of the training start date, and am just sorry that we won't be able to take everyone at first! I do know you have all been very patient and that is really appreciated. For those who do make it through the medical etc (and good luck to all!) I will see you on the first session!

I rang up yesterday and found out im not on this intake. Gutted is the word but then again at least i still have the chance on the next intake to be taken on.

i think its doubtful but if someone did fail on the medical do they look to repace them with another canidate from the next intake? (im not wishing on that on anyone just to be clear :))

It is unfortunate that we are limited in the class size we can handle. I know it's frustrating to have waited so long.

Good luck to those who have a place, with their fitness, medical, etc. With the fitness, in particular, remember that you will take it more than once - initially to pass recruitment but then again when you do the safety training during the course. Some people let it slip a bit after the initial test and struggle at the safety training.

If anyone has particular preferences for where they want to be based, do make sure you let resourcing know. It is not possible to guarantee anything, as it depends on where we have tutors, etc, but we do try to account for preference if we can.

Anything I can provide help with do let me know, but all official comms will come from Resourcing who run the processes up to when you start training.

Yes, sorry to hear that news - I hope your time does come along soon!

As regards a preference in terms of where to based, I am hoping that should I pass the medical and fitness test, Stroud is an option for me. I'll get in touch with resourcing as I have not put this forward as yet ...

My medical with the FMA is tomorrow morning - fingers crossed!
