I'm a PADI open water diver, I passed in the summer and have only dived in Honduras at Cayos Cochinos. It was amazing. There's an algae problem, unfortunately, but it didn't stop it from being utterly amazing. I hear Egypt is good, so I want to tae some more courses (Rescue diver etc.) and then go on some diving holidays. And not to my knowledge, no.

Advance (almost rescue) here. Lady Musgrave Island in Queensland was outstanding for many reasons. Best so far has to be Palawan/Coron in the Phillipines. The wrecks out there were incredible and lots of points for good penetration. For non divers some wrecks are even visible from surface.

Best snorkelling would be Pass island and the surrounds in the Phillipines

Next challenge for myself will be caves ;)

As a keen Diver (Dive leader/Instructor), i must admit i LOVE the UK diving scene, with some foreign jaunts :D

Scotland-Oban and Scapa in Scotland for prolonged diving or the odd bit of diving in Skye, St.Abbs or even Eyemouth is cracking. Some of the diving in the Firth of Forth/Clyde is good too, though i havent personally ever done it maby friends have. Oban has a large amount of wreck diving which is relatively easy to dive with several very good charters and several very good guesthouses i can suggest. Scapa has a equally heavy wreck history, though is generally deeper and a bit ;) more of a trek, but great diving. The other sites are more weekend max trips IMO as the diving is generally more day tripper or shallow/close to shore. That is not to say that St.Abbs/Eyemouth doesnt have deeper stuff, as it does. All sights have a great mix of wreck and scenic dives at a good pread of difficulties and depths including some subs.

Wales- Some nice diving again, though i would say i prefer Liverpool Bay and area around north Wales. South Wales has some good stuff and i hear Anglesea has a decent dive set, though never tried it as yet...always been busy. Some very deep inland sights for those that wish that sort of things.

North England- Massive amounts of diving, lots of good stuff from South Shields, Redcar and Northumbria in general. Good mix of depths and experience and several book available if interested. Whitby has some dives with subs.

Southern England-Weymouth/Portland etc are good. Some great dives out of Swannage for example, Some good B&Bs i can recommend as well as boat charters. Not dived it as much as the north (in this sence anything above mid wales :aok: )

Malta-Love this place, lots and lots of good shore based wrecks/reefs as well as boat based stuff. Lovely county as well and relatively cheap...relatively. Good there for 'christmas' now, as in my mind, is much better than Spain.

Red sea/maldives etc- Lovely, though never been overly interested as had other places but interested in going if possible.

Visability can be mixed but i have had a range from 1 meter to about 20, this is from diving expereince all year around in the Uk,more for Malta etc. Some very good books available from Aqua Press etc

PM if you want a Buddy or more details..I'm just moving down south, so need to get in touch with some divers. To replace my other clubs :(

There should be a dive club on here though, i would be interested in that :D :aok: . TO THE MODS, HOW DO WE SORT THAT OUT?

Troops, this seems to be the PS. com Diving Club now :aok: ....as such, any diving you fancy or are going on and want...

A) Site advice

B) Dive Buddies

C) Dive related stuff be it info/training etc

Then is suppose this is a sounding board?
So i suppose i will start with...Can anyone recommend a diving club in Hertfordshire? As i'm about to move and don't want to get withdrawls :w00t: :D

Well if you're ever in Norfolk look up Christal Seas Scuba. They have their own boat and often dive wrecks off the north Norfolk coast and the Sherigham chalk gullies.

I did my AOW in September but haven't had a chance to dive since. Roll on the warmer waters!!

Something I've always wanted to try but never done....

Broadsbeat... Think we're nearby, if so then I'm still envious of your unit's jet ski after seeing it in workshops! ;)

Give it a try! Took me a while to get round to it but glad I did.

The Jet Ski was a demo vehicle from Yamaha. Was the second time we've used it. We were supposed to head down to assist Suffolk at the Lowestoft airshow but we got stood down as some of the team got deployed to the Met riots! Understandably we had to backfill our own areas.

Boats, the sea, Wrecks and Diver...sounds good ;) Bit of a trek though from Herts. Do you know if they take 'guest' positions if i sign up for a news letter or something? I've seen a few clubs before which allow non members to fill spaces after all the clubs tried or pay a £5 surcharge etc

Everywhere's a trek from Herts isn't it?!?! Ha ha!!

There is dive club which will give you priority bookings but the dives are open to anyone. There are two wrecks which are shore dives along with the Sheringham Gullies. There is a cost for going out on the boat but not the shore dives.

Take a look on www.scuba4me.co.uk and check out the events section! 😉

Have looked at the courses on the Christal Seas Scuba website... I'm becoming more tempted. I did say I'd take up a new hobby in 2012!

Like I said, try it! You can do a try dive for something like £25...... Held in the pool at the Hewitt school on Hall Road.

Smashing idea, I am a recently qualified diver myself - currently at BSAC Ocean Diver level, this means up to 20m... went on a diving holiday in Dahab, Egypt in November last year, had a fantastic time. Such a revelation diving in crystal clear, warm waters after my training in murky lakes in Wraysbury!

Will be doing my Sports Diver (30m) course over the winter. I am particularly interested in wreck diving, so far I've only done one though - the Fleur de Lys, a fishing boat off Swanage, Dorset, which sank in 2000 after an on board explosion. Very interesting report maritime investigation report here, if you're so inclined.

Am off to Greece later this year and hoping to get some diving in there as well.

Would be very keen to meet up with others who are interested in diving UK waters, particularly around the South coast.

I am PADI AOW and have been diving since about 2004. Looking at doing my rescue diver over the next couple of years. Wouldn't mind becoming a divermaster one day but that takes ages.

If you like wreck dives Lord Vader then I recommend Thistlegorm in Egypt, I dived that in August 2010 and it was one of the best dives I have ever done. The wreck is huge and has an amazing history to go with it.

I agree with Kilo Sierra, Malta is a great place to dive. I did some of my first dives in Malta so have some great memories there. We should have a special dive club forum badge :)

You lot are going to cost me money... I'd thought about diving off and on over the years, today found me in a Dive Shop walking away with a load of literature on the courses. Think i'm going to end up doing my Open Water in the near future! Unsure as to whether or not to wait until it's a bit warmer though, opinions..?

Have you done a try dive yet? When I was doing my training for my expedition some of the others in my group were all hyped about diving, until they got into the open water, panicked and refused to dive, and decided they hated it. Also, a couple didn't like the closed water training, either. So keep that in mid before you spend a fortune.

I've done a pool dive before, never in open water or lakes etc... Just in a pool... Enjoyed it but money wasn't on my side in those days!

(It's still not on my side entirely!)

I have a few friends who where put off diving as they had their first experience in the UK colder waters and in some cases cloudy waters. But when they went abroad and dived in tropical waters they loved it and have kept up the hobby ever since. Thats something to bare in mind if you are a new comer to diving. Me on the other hand will dive in all conditions, I just love to be in the water.

Righto folks, how about this.

DIVING TRIP ;) -

Would anyone like to dive The Blue Lagoo, Arlesey on any Friday, Saturday or Sunday in February (expect 24/25/26th). The reasons-

A) I want to get back into the water after roughly 1.5/2 months of been dry  ,

B) I've never been there and want an explore :) ,

C) I want to do some shake up dives prior to the teaching season starting again.

Will to take anyone that is qualified with atleast a basic level course (be it Ocean Diver/Open water diver et al) and anyone else. Training agency and experience is as important as ability, so as i say, anyone is welcome.

If anyone is interested, then feel free to contact me via the thread/PM and we can try and get something off the ground. Happy to car share. Site is NOT confirmed and to be honest will travel to other sites/suggestions if offered.

Lets get wet

John
