Hello to all Cheshire Police potential recruits. I am a serving SC with Cheshire in the Northern BCU. I have been for the over the past 1 and a half years. Ive noticed this part of Cheshire is pretty quiet, so I thought I'd sign up to help anyone who needs a little bit of info.
In my personal opinion, Cheshire is one of the best forces going, and again the Northern BCU is too! The variety of work can be great too. The PC's in Northern are some the best and most friendly people I have come across, and are willing to teach you anything you want to know. I must stress though, if you are coming to play dress up and razz around in a panda, or not muck in then forget it. You will soon be found out and no one will be willing to help you out. If you are willing to muck in, book a duty to finish at 3am but not get home to 5am, end up rolling around in the mud, do an assault MG11 statement at 4am, do a drugs warrant and go through a door at 6am then this is the force for you. If you want to be seen as a reliable and professional to your colleagues and members of the public, then again this is the force for you. Cheshire, like many other forces are having to cut back, including staff. This means more and more responsibility is being placed on us.
Please please study the law and legislation. From day one in public, your seen as an Officer, the public don't care whether you've been in for one day or 10 years.

It is quiet in here!
I've just my letter (after 15 months of selection) to say that I start on the 21st Jan!!!!!!!
I know I'm going to the Eastern BCU, which is what I wanted anyway. I'm just planning on managing my time correctly! I'm already married with a small child (nearly 3), so I'm planning on sticking to the night shifts, that way if things run over - It is easier for me to stay on.
I've been told officers in the Met & GMP that Cheshire is one of the hardest forces to get in to, but also very good with the way it treats it's officers. A GMP officer said he liked Cheshire because they didn't ram the PC business down your throat (His brother-in-law is a an officer in Cheshire) but they also rely on the common sense of officers.
I know what you mean about 1 day or 10 years, at the end of the day - you're an officer and you should know what you're doing ni the eyes of the public.

Well done first of all for sticking with it. Your patientce will be rewarded. I can't speak for Eastern, what I hear they seem to get alot of the new SC's, extra training etc. No hard feelings though!!
Cheshire has been in the past been regarded as one of the best forces and yes the hardest to get in. I do believe they are looking at the future of recruitment, how the Met do it and MAY follow. We don't have SC on our collar, so MOP can't even tell. I do also believe we have the BEST uniform too! Good luck and enjoy.

Wow, long time waiting to get in hey. Well done though.
Personally I dont think this site is as well advertised as it should be within the Cheshire specials. I have only just signed up but I have always browsed it for advice and info and found it very useful.
The bit that stood out that made me sign up, rather sadly, is how you say Cheshire have the best uniform. I can guarantee that we dont have the best uniform and are far from it.
In November last year I attended a regional sgt's course and then more recently an inspectors one and was amused to find that most of the other forces there had tunic's with whistles, black search rain coats (and fluorescent ones), smart shoes, smart pants, metal collar numbers and a few other things. I didnt get any of this. At the end of the day, all of this stuff is only materialistic but it goes to show that we dont have the best uniform. In all honesty, im not bothered, just pointing out the facts, I'd like a black rain coat though! haha

Practical and job specific. I point our uniform as to the job we carry out. The tunics and whistles are fine for the ceremony stuff, but chasing someone through a housing estate in my smart shoes. Nah. Black rain coat. Some bobbies have got them. Think they've been in the job for years and got them issued.

Yeh, I think pracital plays the best part. No.2 Dress in the army looks good, nice and smart, however back in the First world war trenches they fought in that kit - Forget that! If you have (as Cheshire seem to) the stores with Tunics, cotton white gloves and whistles for parades and ceremonial jobs, then fine. I don't even think it's really a crime if officers who have medals have the medals on their tunics without the ribbons underneath.
Have you ever felt a GMP stab vest? About half the thickness of Cheshire's and I know which I'd rather wear!

I've seen specials wearing all sorts of kit (including tac vests) over at Northern and nobody seems to notice/mention anything.

Sorry, should have included an extra line. I only meant that kit for as you say ceremonies and stuff. I certainly would hate to have to run after someone in a tunic and blow a whistle at them haha.
Operationally though were getting there. T-Shirt before shirt and tie anyday.

Going well! Law seems to be a logical pathway, not as complex as what you might think! I know deep down it is, but that's for the CPS and the barristers to deal with! All seems to run smoothly in class, but there's only 13 of us, so once we've grasped it, we can move on. I meet a few from last March's intake at the weekend (some of them were on as training day) and they said they had 60 on their intake! I guess smaller intakes can pick up the info faster, but that has to be weighed against time needed to train and the instructors time!

Yeh, that was my intake, it was crazy, there was far too many of us! We ended up getting split into 2 or even 4 groups for some sessions, cause it was madness trying to do role plays for 60 of us a the same time!!
Must have missed you on Saturday as I was there, but didn't bump into any of your intake, although I did see you guys around and abouts...

Where you late by any chance?! I know we started at 9am, but walked up there at about 08.55, so could be why! I was originally down for that intake, but mised it due to medical issues!

Yes/No. I wasn't late but our course didn't start till 0930 so I only got there just after 9...
That's a shame, at least you'll be on division soon enough...
