I was but i left 5 months ago. because i had to much to do at home seeing we had a wedding coming up and every thing so it was very hard to volunteer.
so i had to leave but now i'm married and home life has settled down and i have lots of free time on my hands now. So i phoned up today to get the ball rolling on my come back.

They're making you re-apply from scratch after only 5 months out? That's a bit naughty.

Have you rung HR to ask if you can just come back?

I would give HR a ring as I'm sure you shouldn't have to re apply after only 5 months . I'm certain I've heard of specials coming back after nearly a year out, without going through the whole application again.

I was working with a guy last week who joined in 2008 but hadn't done any hours for 2 years and they just let him come straight back to the PDU for a bit of tutoring before going back to his NPT. He didn't actually resign but he'd been gone a lot longer than you.

Good luck!

I attend a presentation evening on 3rd of may. i'm just waiting for a application form now to be sent to my email now. They was a big turn out. So i might be waiting a while for my application but if all fails i will be ringing them up on monday to see if this is the normal time to wait for a application form.

I emailed recruitment on the 27th April and they said that they have put me on an 'interest list' and would send me a letter when the next presentation night was, but obviously they haven't! Anyone know If giving them a ring would be better?

well i finaly got a application form just filling it in now. the application forms where already sent out and i did not get one. so i phoned up and asked. if you think that HR have forgotten you ring them and ask they will not think any less of you and it was a full turn out for our evening and depending where you are on the list might depend on which presention eveing you get invited to.

I still can't believe they made you reapply from the start after only a few months out.

What is the reason?

I was at a presentation evening as a Special, talking to prospective recruits. its a decent idea to go to one, they'll be able to tell you the bits and bobs about being a Constable that isn't in the ads or the recruitment pack, like going home at 07:00 because you locked someone up 5 minutes before your shift was supposed to end, or having to forcibly strip search a drug addict with leg ulcers and lice, (its so much easier when they comply...) or having to carry home most of your kit because its covered in blood and will need to be washed.

also they'll tell you about the fun stuff like screaming through red lights with blues and sirens going, or smashing in someones door, or chasing a burglar and actually catching him.

and if your very lucky like me you'll join up and enjoy all of it when it happens to you.
