Hi all,

I have been told by my Sargent that we (cadets) are going to help with the Olympics. shouldn't we be issued with hi-viz jackets and radio as we are currently not issued with them? Not sure what our role will be but am presuming security? anyone else in the Met police cadet?

Not much, just that we are going to help volunteer and Marshall. But in all events where the public are involved hi-vis comes out.

Why would you want to look like an officer, when you have no powers, PPE, etc?

Ah I see! When I was a cadet I would of refused to go out if I was expected to look anything like a Constable. Enjoy the Olympics! :(

Why? and thanks

Because as a cadet your not a constable. No Officer safety training, no personal protection, and no legal powers or training to work with when a MOP comes up to you believing your an officer. But this conversation only applies if MrKguy wanted to look like one! He was just highlighing how daft a beret and hi-vis looks so my comments are irrelevant. I think it has been discussed somewhere here before so won't go one :D Don't want to go off topic!

Your still representing the police. you wouldn't want to give information to the public about crime looking like a paramedic?

I never said go out looking like a Paramedic? I said Cadets shouldn't resemble officers. :)

Edit: just re read. I see where you are coming from but you dont have to dress like a police officer to represent the police service. But I don't even know why we are discussing it as nobody has suggested it! :D

Good luck with whatever you get to do.

Berets are a lot more comfortable and practical than flat caps, don't push too hard to get rid of them...please just learn to shape them http://www.aircadeto..._tips_beret.htm quick search on web found this, ok from the Air cadets but it's a start.

Im a civilian insturctor with the Air Training Corps and one thing I can not stand is a beret that is not properly shaped (or shaped at all). It is dead simple to do, and looks very professional when done properly, and worn properly.

Though I must say our police cadets in Dyfed-Powys wear flat caps and have a very similar uniform to officers, but they wear green and silver reflective bands, and white shirts with green ties. They also get issued hi vis
