Hey all,

I will be moving house in January and will be on the border of both South and West Yorkshire and so I need to decide whether to apply to either WY or SY.

Could any SY Police Reg/Specials tell me what roles Specials are given in SY?
Are they treated the same as Regs?
Do you enjoy working as a Special?

And anything else you feel is relevant.

Thanks in advance,

CAVEAT - Different districts vary slightly

-Could any SY Police Reg/Specials tell me what roles Specials are given in SY?
Primary SNT with the option of supporting NPG
Public Order Level 3 for serial work such as football
Specialist units/attachments include: SSG (a special version of Task Force/TSG), Roads Policing Group, Road Crime Unit, plus a few other odds and ends
Driving permits up to Compliant Stop level

-Are they treated the same as Regs?
Within the limits imposed by the role in general yes.

-Do you enjoy working as a Special?
As they don't pay us yes, otherwise I wouldn't bother!

Thanks for the reply.

Public Order level 3? From my browsing this seems higher than other counties?
SSG? Sorry to be a little naive, but what exactly is that?

Thanks in advance,

Public order level 3 is a basic level. Currently WYP have a serial of PO level 2 officers which is higher than level 3, but most SYP specials get level 3.

SSG or Specials Support Group as AB suggested is a specials version of Task Force/TSG.

In Barnsley the work is slightly different but mostly aimed around being tasked to deal with ASB problem areas and various operations which I'm not at liberty to discuss on the tinterwebs.
