Tip for attestation, make sure your shoes/boots are polished (you don't have to bull them but make it look like you've made an effort) and get handy with an iron! Iron your shirt to within an inch of it's life and if the trousers don't have a crease sewn in then make sure you iron one in! I personally iron a crease back and front of my issued trousers.
Oh and bugbear of mine... If you speaking to a sergeant call them sarge or sergeant, if you're speaking to anyone senior of that then call them sir or ma'am including when you collect your warrant card which will probably go "thank you sir, thank you sir, thank you, thank you ma'am". People seem to forget this at their attestation.
It's never been clearly defined but I'd suggest you pay similar respect to specials officers too. Remember numbers and a bar (s/sgt) = sarge/sergeant, no numbers and two/three or more bars (ddo or above) = sir/ma'am. I'm in the latter group and still call more senior officers sir/boss.

See you at your attestation chaps (and chapesses), careful what you do and don't say on public forums and enjoy training.

I think the trousers I tried on today had a crease sewn in already (win). If not the trousers, and also short will be ironed to within an inch or their life. Then they might have a trip to the parents too for a good going over
At attestation, is there a speech etc, and an opportunity for photos. What would you suggest the guests wear?
Sorry for so many questions :/.
Thanks for the tips Sarge (please tell me I read you post right

Presentation about the specials & syp, a few speeches from senior regular, magistrate, senior trainer and chief officer (specials), attestation itself, collecting the warrant cards then official photos & a chance for family to take photos.
Guests generally tend to dress smartly.

Thanks for all the info guys! Going down to do my ID card in the morning. Sorry I've not been on; only just learnt how to use this thing. A drink sounds good on the first sunday. Be good to put names to faces!
Shaun
