Hi,

This might be a bit of a silly question.

Is there a certain dress code for ride alongs? I got mine on Saturday @WSM and just wanted to make sure!

Wear stuff that is warm, practical, suitable for all weathers and you dont mind getting trashed - you never know what you might end up near!

Sunday Best. I kid. A pair of tough jeans you don't mind getting destroyed, practical footwear and some warm upper clothing.

What are you doing on these ride alongs? whenever I have taken a ride along out they just watch me do my job, we dont go skateboarding or anything! so long as its warm and practical and not your best gear you should be fine!

Oh and if you ever sit in the back, make sure you sit on the drivers side of the car.

I recommend a full "Ronald McDonald" costume (other clown suits are available) from your local fancy dress hire shop.

Would definitely lighten the mood when they see who they're taking out in the car for the evening.

Don't want to be mistaken for a criminal, on a practical note just wear warm and comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes / practical. One bit of advice avoid anything that resembles police clothing or uniform whatever you do, think how plain clothes officers dress and this is the answer to your question.

Surely dressing as the hamburglar would be more apt?

Funny you should say that, I was at trinity and had a stab vest on, We went to a burglary and the dog unit came over to me and started spouting some jargon....I bet he thought I was a complete doughnut! Also some guys we arrested starting asking why CID was here, they all looked worried Posted Image.

Hah, funny you should say that Wayne

I got issued a stabby at Weston on my original ride along, was only due to the nature of the call we went to, afterwards was back on with the ' Police Observer ' tabbard :p
Snug though

My advice from the two officers I was with was to 'Act like your the Police aswell, just stand around and stare at people'
It worked well :p

In response to the OP's question, I'd wear something comfortable on your feet, you never know if you'll be walking around or running even, and something you wouldn't mind if it got scuffed/muddy etc and a sensible t-shirt/trousers/jeans combo and if your doing any ride along around this time of year, bring a jumper too! :whistle2:
Money/Food aswell depending on how long your staying, and if you can stay for the whole shift you'll love every minute of it! :saint:

Had my ride along yesterday, despite the fact it was fairly quiet I found it to be a really good experience! Went along to a section 18 search and a blue light run! Staff seemed pretty welcoming too. Just hope I can do another one when it's a bit busier.

All in all really good day. Recommend it to anyone in the process.

Can MOP go on ride alongs or is it only when through training for the police service? I am doing a PS Diploma and something like this would mean everything to me. Id love it.

I see you have to be 18. I am almost 17 and I am in London so would be a drive but as soon as I turn 18 I am going to apply for this and I don't mind traveling at all. Thanks for that, is it only that force or do the met or Surrey police so similar?

Damnit, you cheated and posted this as I was merging the threads and finding the link!

There are other forces that do it, you would need to check with your local one to see it they offer it :aok:

Go for it mate, you won't regret it :p

Was going to head out on New Years, but it was dangerous enough so my tutor decided against it, still got another one booked for the 7th
As everyones said, you can be a in-training special or a MoP and you can go out on ride alongs, the only benefit with the in-training SC is that you'll be able to bypass the vetting procedure as you've done it already to get into training, plus you'll be able to do more than one :p

I will but I will have to wait until July 2013 :aok: I am sure it will be worth the wait though. I should be applying then also so it would give me a great insight into the role. Thanks mate.
