They might do, but you would have to find a force that has some as we dont in A&S!!

Was only joking... would be nice though but Essex would be a long way to travel!

Wouldn't mind doing a OS with the NPT though! Done three with Response, so would like to cover all aspects of Policing! Posted Image

Got my Medical next Saturday (providing Vetting clearance comes back in time) so all good with that then I'll ask to do a OS with the NPT. Posted Image

The short anwer to that is yes. I think however you need to be affiliated with the force in some capacity such as a special or police staff.

I have been contacted and told that my application has been received.
What's next? And how long does it usually take from application to the actual ride along?

Ooooo......now that is interesting! I'll have to have a look into that!! :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe you need to apply to get a ride along, you are able to go as a member of the public.

If you go to your local station they would advise you I'm sure. :D

Weren't you the guy who had the issues with the application regarding your dad?

Helicopter you need to be afilliated to the force, chances are slim that you will be lucky to get airbourne.
As for ridealongs pretty much any one can do these providing your history doesnt make interesting reading.

My special application did get withdrawn for what I believe the reason to be my dad.

I got told I had to fill in a ride along application to be able to go on one so I did.

I believe forces near me don't offer the ride along scheme

Just had a glance at the South Wales Police main page, and unlike Avon and Somerset i can't see any obvious link to any ride along scheme, my best idea for you would be to contact your local stations (or as local as your area permits, ie ignoring the village station and trying your local town/city) and either visit them personally, or make some enquirys by phone.

If you've already filled in an application, see if you can find who gave it to you, and then make your enquirys to him/her, i remember back when i first filled in my one for A&S, i was contacted by a Special who arranged all the details with myself and the Inspector of the station.

Best of luck and let us know how you get on, I'll be only happy to help and i'm sure everyone else will be to!

Thanks CJay.

I am in contact with the person in charge of the ride along scheme in Bristol via email. Well the only contact was she asked me to fill out the form and send via email which i did and she said 'thanks I received it' but I don't want to be a pain by asking a load of questions to her.

I will phone local stations and see what they say :aok:

I've had two ride alongside and hopefully going fir a third ASAP! I had a day shift in WSM where we attended 4 jobs blue lights and 2 tones which was brilliant! I was quite lucky as I was single crewed so could sit in the front :D bit less sicker feeling then being thrown around the back like the Saturday night national lottery balls. 2nd shift was a 2200 till 0700 which was also brilliant was on a Saturday night in the town centre got in the middle of a couple of fights which was exciting. But I didn't deem it fair as my partner splitting up a fight with 3 or 4 men so I guess for the safety of my partner I got involved and he was grateful!

I fully recommend it though there great a real eye opener, and the hot chocolate and donuts are nice :)

I would love to say full scale riots..but unfortunately not as exciting as JW's, I'm afraid to say, however still very interesting and got to be out and sharing the experience. We were out in Glastonbury for a few hours Friday night to restrict ASB on the main street, kids drinking etc. However word must have got out as the 100-2200 kids we expected never showed, it was, shall I say, very quiet! Maybe a lull before the storm, nice to be broken in gently though???!! ;)

Very much looking forward to the next and a custody visit on the 1st November in Yeovil...! :(

Does anyone know how to get a ride along with Motorway traffic or ARV? Is it allowed, does it happen?

On my ride alongside I always go out with the same officer so I usually put his collar number down on the last page where you sign and write a short message saying I would like to be crewed with him. However I wouldn't imagine you'd be aloud to go out with an arv due to health and safety precautions as exciting as a+s is with gun crime I would imagine they'd think what if you got shot etc! But I can't see a problem with the traffic police you should just write a small note on the section that says what would you like to observe. :D

Thanks

Perhaps I'm missing out on something here then? I haven't been asked to write or sign anything? Now whether thats because I was out on an Op rather than a patrol I don't know? I can understand the ARV situation though but looking to go into Traffic as a specialty, if accepted as a regular, I would like to get a first hand experience of it. Hmmm....best go back to Sally me thinks.

I recall when i'd first filled in the form, and sent it back i got a call from Insp. Jury down at W-S-M asking what i'd most like to see, he gave me a few options after i replied saying i could break up the day into different bits if i wanted to, but i was perfectly happy going out with the regulars, never knowing what you might run across during your shift.

I do agree with everyone fully who says ride alongs are a real eye opener, if your thinking about the Police as a career or the specials for that matter, get yourself on one of these schemes you'll love it! :D

Exactly right

I got it off the Avon and Somerset Constabulary site, I posted a link a few posts back on this topic, follow that my ol pal!
It's the registering your interest one, you 'should' get a form through the post, thats how i started my little ride along journey  (Can't do anymore, if i ask for a seventh it's a bit cheeky!)

I spoke to each big station in south wales and each one says the same that they do not participate in any sort of ride along scheme.

I don't mind where I go to do it, I just want to take part in it!
It's taking a while for A+S to get back to me :/ hope theress not a problem! :/
