Just read that article, it said that the BAAC took on Glasgow in 1975 but in 1974 had been effectivly disbanded

That article (written by me) is the sum total of my knowledge - took a while to get that far, and there's still more to come I'm sure!

PC1 - that's Liverpool ("Liverpool Airport Police were effectively disbanded in 1974, when political change at the City Council saw Liverpool Parks Police merged with the airport police into a civilian "Liverpool City Security Force".)

There are some pictures in the websites linked to as references at the bottom of the article! Nearly no copy-free ones though.

Seems like an interesting force to have worked for - One question though, wasnt the force disbanded after an undisclosed 'terrorist incident' at Heathrow where the Met Police had to be deployed because the Airport Constabulary didnt have the authority to carry firearms?

What I find odd is why didnt the government simply legislate to allow the Airport Police to carry firearms on duty? Looking on it, it seems crazy to have disbanded a national force simply because of this reason when the solution would have been much simpler and cheaper.

Hi Radman, I see your still very active on here, unlike my last postings from years ago.

When the Met took over at Heathrow in the early 70s, if I remember correctly, all the then serving BA officers retained their conditions of service and pension rights, they stayed at the airport until retiring. I can't remember if it was a specific incident, or more the fact they simply followed the trend where during the 1960s when all the small towns police etc had been amalgamated into today's county constabularies.

Even up until the early 90s there were several officers still serving at ID who originated from the BAC, theoretically even into the 'noughties' if they'd joined pre 1973?

Regards.
