Suffolk Recruiting PCSOs

I’m surprised on one else has started this, so I will.
To be honest, I’m shocked. I would also just like to clarify that the majority of PCSO I have worked with are fantastic, and go way above their role. The help they have given me is more than what they should be doing.
But, that doesn’t change my opinion, that the role is unnecessary, over priced and an ineffective way of policing. I think there is a role for the PCSO in today’s policing climate. For example I think there should be a PCSO on duty at an SNT between 7am and midnight every day.
Anyway, I think this pretty much cements it for me that the Constabulary won’t be recruiting PCs for a long time. It’s also bizarre that I was talking two some one (in HR) less than a month ago saying they were going to be phasing PCSOs out. Unless the money is coming from local business or something?
Maybe we as specials, are just being to efficient and instead of assisting the regs, we may even be filling their vacant shoes.

Police Community Support Officers
Do you want to play a role in keeping Suffolk safe - and help give local people a policing service that is simply the best?Suffolk Constabulary has been recruiting Police Community Support Officers, who work alongside regular officers, Special Constables and staff from other agencies to tackle crime and improve people's quality of life.
PCSOs are set to play a crucial role in new Safer Neighbourhood teams, which provide policing and other services to local people across the county.
They concentrate on combating low level crime and anti-social behaviour in our county as well as enforcing parking restrictions. And they spend most of their day where they can be most effective - conducting high visibility patrols out on the street.
The basic salary for a PCSO starts from £17,550 and rises to almost £19,461 plus shift/weekend working allowances for a 37-hour week.
Please note: we are not currently recruiting for PCSOs.

Does that mean Specials can apply for internal vacancies or was this an exception?

Yes specials can apply for internal posts. Be aware some internal role are a conflict of interest with being an SC's so would mean giving up the warrent card.
Have you had any experience with this mate? I was under the impression that specials were inelligable unless the position went external?

Unless the money is coming from local business or something?
In BTP some of our PCSO's are funded by the Train Operating Companies (TOCS) who help determine there KPI's and targets etc.
We have also had similar problems with specials going for internal jobs, BTP recently opened up PC recruitment and internal applicants weren't given any preference at all.
