Alright Rich,

Just let them know when you take on the job, it shouldn't effect your status within the process :(

i know its 4 years for the regs recruitment, and fair enough, i hope in september they have the funds to carry it on, im sure the can afford to put voluntary police offciers through training because in the long run, its alot more cost effective.

When September comes i can't see them training anymore specials for a while, the reason i say that is all the trainers that are based at tally ho are all going back out on to lpu(they all got told last week). Hence no one avaliable to do the training. I believe its the same thing for the pdu's on lpu, all have been put back on shifts. The main reason for all of it is just a lack of police officers. i would still watch this space with regards to regular recruitment, word on the grapvine is that it wont be very long till they open it again.

Just the SC. I think they're going to recruit from within for regs from now on.

Yeah that's what ive heard, any new regular recruits will either come from specials or pcso. times seem to vary but few people have said possible end of this financial year then others say next year.

The next intake will come from the 1000 or so people who have already passed the assessment centre. From this pool the PCSO's will be selected first then Specials based on training level then others. The next intake may be next year in April but more likely to be end of next year.

Has any of this officially been released yet? The regular recruitment update email failed to mention this. I'm more than happy with it if it's true....

Its all grapevine stuff and rumour. Officially, nobody knows anything until April 2012. PCSO's will go first because it means moving a person from a post that they may have to make redundant in the future to a post that is secure without paying any redundancy fees. Not to mention PCSO's have great local knowledge and already have Corvus, FLINTS, IMS etc and know how to fill in basic paperwork.

That's been going around for the last 7 years at least, it's a load of rubbish. When recruitment opens it will be open to all.... but don't expect that to be within the next couple of years I would imagine.

Its hardly a business case to employ a PCSO as a PC because they know how to use some basic IT systems, that is a tiny amount of the overall training required to become a PC. The redundancy part I can understand, although most importantly what the recruitment process needs to make sure is that the right people get the jobs!

TBH I can’t see why they would move PCSO's first over Specials as Specials are already doing to the role, have all the uniform/equipment sorted and passed PST. I'm a special and have access to all the systems you mention plus many more. I know your probably only passing on a rumour but I would say (from what I have heard) they will most likely open it up to specials and PCSO's at the same time internally (if they do it that way).

Then again who knows, only time will tell.......

PCSO's will be moved first because it means lowering their numbers without paying out large sums in redundancy payments. It also means that it doesn't alter the forces wage bill in the short term as if you move a person from one role to another it doesn't add anything. For some longer serving PCSOs they will be paid less on their intial pc probation period. If the force hire a special over a pcso, they are adding another head onto the wage bill and losing an unpaid volunteer.

Plus if they start making PCSO positions redundant then by law they have to offer people in those positions another Job within the company.

Pretty sure that's not the case. They'll just be laid off like everyone else in any other organisation. If there are no jobs to offer them (which there wont) then they'll be sent packing.

When recruitment opens again it will be open to all, being a special or PCSO might mean you have experience of the organisation etc but it will be open to everyone.

We are not talking about when they open recruitment again. We are talking about when they give the 1000 or so people already through the process a start date.
