I passed my direct access bike test in 1997 and submitted my pass certificate to the DVLA , however it was returned as I forgot to enclose a cheque for the update on my licence, I then misplaced the test certificate in a house move. Recently I discovered the certificate and submitted it to the DVLA but they are refusing to up date my licence because it was not returned within a 2 year period although they acknowledge that I did pass my test in 1997. I would like to become a motorcycle riding instructor but according to most websites I must hold a licence for at least 3 yrs, How can I overcome this problem. I have the original copy of the pass certificate.

You can't do anything because technically you never had a full licence as you didn't upgrade yours within 2 years when you passed the test.

You'll need to retake your test and DVLA won't give in on the issue either. :aok:

Personally I'd write a few more letters explaining the situation, try if possible to get the name of someone higher up the chain and see if there is anything they can suggest. I'm not sure that anyone on here can offer any advice as its not really a police matter.

erm......there isnt somthing right here, when you pass your test it is a "free" upgrade to full licence, and besides, most people just give their licence to their examiner at the end

I have only ever read about people managing to do it after 2 years by literally going to Swansea and making a fuss about it there and then they are more "flexible"

This smells to me like someone has been caught riding without a full licence.

Me too. No cost to add a entitlement.
