Ooh, i have literally in the past week cracked out the joystick and throttle and got back onto FSX. Seem to spend most of my time flying a BAE RAF Nimrod, no idea why. Might sign up to VATSIm tonight and give it a go.
ooh Nimrod...a fine choice!

Usually fly a Boeing 772 in UAL colours doing the EGLL-KSFO rotation, using FSX - I love the scenery and views when approaching the Bay Area, and find the same when approaching London. Have also got the Saitek yoke, throttle controls and rudder pedals all set up for flying the heavy.
Tried the Level-D 767, but just didn't get on with it, and it didn't like the yoke set-up - took me long enough to get it all to play nice with the default FSX aircrat.

I can only take off and then when i try to land it ends up like something off the news.
Haha hey! at least you are famous for something! do you use a joy stick or the keyboard? as joystick or game pad helps MASSIVELY especially in helicopters!

only a keyboard and mouse.
Invest in a joystick off amazon (only around a tenner) the difference it makes is huge!
otherwise using a keyboard use small movements and adjust everything in increments. also use the knee board for a checklist so you have everything covered for landing

I just got this, such a good game. First of all took out Bournemouth with an 737, then found the mouse-yoke control and now I'm getting the hand of it (mostly).

you will get sucked in with all the expansion packs and mission packs too! i can hold my own when piloting the helicopter. wish someone will come up with a police chopper expansion pack though!

Have you done the Coastguard helichopper mission? I always seem to drop the aircraft onto the motorway to heavily or get blown away by a gust of wind and ditching in the bay or striking the bridge. The one time I picked up the chap I stacked it into the hospital
Haha yes i have, its a right monster, i had to save the game after completing each point or attempting a objective. Untill i figured out how to do it.
If you press shift z a couple of times the Display info changes and shows rate of wind and direction as well as other info i find useful for hovering.
Popping the nose of the chopper in to the wind helps avoid the gusts spinning you round and apply some trim to keep the nose level on the horizon without requiring you to push the yoke forward (in effect you should be able to hover hands free). Don't descend too low as ground effect will suck you towards the deck with a bang.
