it clearly states in health and safety booklet it states that each cadet needs to have stab vest when in public.
When are the Scouts & Girl Guides being issued with one then?
That's H&S gone mad!

Do you really need one?
Or do you want one just for the sake of it?
Trust me there hot,&uncomfortable, get very smelly, Horrible to wash. I only wear it because I might be dealing with dangerous offenders. If I was in non Police Uniform just giving out things to the public I really would not feel the need to wear one.

Hi, I am currently a member of SYP cadets, we do a lot off community work handing out leaflets doing smart water ect. However we have not been issued stab vest even thou it clearly states in health and safety booklet it states that each cadet needs to have stab vest when in public. I mean we do not do "front line policing" we are not out arresting people we just go out to hand leaflets and assist people. So i was wondering does the police force need issue stab vest ? IT CLEARY STATES IN H&S that we all should be given one.

Hey Amz,
I was a cadet many moons ago now with SYP and we did have body armour - it was pool issued with "SYP CADET" on the chest and not police - I take it the force got rid of the old armour and never replaced it?
On most occassions we were not allowed out unless issued with body armour but that was the old system under which the 'new' cadet scheme took over.
Something you need to take up with your Cadet Staff.
why on earth would you need a stab vest to go out handing out leaflets?!
Bensonby SYP did used to give cadets access to armour, we even had access to airwaves at one point and recieved training on them - I even did attatchments with my local NPT team as a Cadet, great experience.

Common sense should kick in and tell anyone that, meaning you wouldnt need a stab vest.

Then that goes down to bad planning of the staff as it could be seen as a safeguarding issue.
Daniel,
You put people in a uniform out with the public bad things can happen fairly easily - trust me.
(Especially with a uniform such as SYP Cadets, when I did it it looked more 'police like' then a SYP PCSO - Same White Shirt, Black Eppaulettes, SYP Cap Badge ect)
It's the times you least expect problems that often leads to the worst type of encounters.

After Looking at the Pictures, The Uniform is a little to much like the PCSO one in my opinion. Seems risky to use blue bands on hats etc. why not use green or orange and have Cadet in bigger writing.
The SYP Cadets have been around alot longer then PCSO's, if anything PCSO uniforms look like a Police Cadets.

I don't quite understand why cadets would need a vest. I was part of the MET cadets and not once were we ever put in a situation where we felt unsafe.
Yeah but when I was a Cadet the Met Cadet scheme had a reputation for not really doing much other then drill...
