If you are experiencing problems with your assigned NPT, such as they won't work with Specials or they are leaving you to your own devises until the end of their shifts, please provide a write-up of the problems to Tina Shelton via her GMP e-mail (this can be found on the GMP address system)

This is not to be used to debate if Specials should be with NPT or to complain about NPT's. It is simply to identify areas where improvements can be made to ensure Specials are integrated into NPT's and the smooth running to the benefit of both the NPT and the Specials.

Tina works as Specials co-ordinator, directly for the Chief Constable. She is interested in the problems Specials are experiencing and she will bring these to the attention of the Chief Constable with a view of having these addressed.

Good information and no doubt a problem that somebody will face as a Special.

I have pinned the topic.

Please do not debate the issues in this thread! :)

I fail to understand why on earth GMP has decided that Specials would be better placed on the area policing teams when they are giving up their free time as volunteers. It should go back to the old way where specials can work with pretty much what area they liked as long as they were out of their probation and had the approval of the Inspector/Sgt of that particular area and their own supervisions approval.

I used to regularly take specials out with me on response and the majority used to mix it up between neighbourhood and response. I'd be interested to know if this is actually made as a policy or just requested by the special constabulary.

Certainly when I was a special I worked with response and very rarely with neighbourhood because it was boring and wasn't as fun as response. (Not a dig at neighbourhood colleagues as obviously its not a boring job, but it will not be as exciting as response for specials).

Madness.

If there was a like button for this then I would be pressing it several times. In particular this line "I'd be interested to know if this is actually made as a policy or just requested by the special constabulary.
" caught my attention and is something I think should be questione more.

I'm allowed out on Response, but only after set times.

This came from an ACC, so it's policy.

It was mentioned that Tameside is good. What

Hi Philip,

No I'm afraid response is restricted as per ACC orders during NPT working hours. That would be what Lee is refering to when he states 'after set times'.

All SCs are embedded into the 4 NPTs across the division and in addition to this the SLT do quite often request assistance in other areas, however it would not be appropriate to discuss in depth ops / policy on here.

That said there is plenty of variety and opportunity for those who want to put the work in

As the thread states, this is not for discussing if you should stay restricted to the NPT or not.

I have created a topic for you to debate this issue in (which isn't pinned).

No more debating posts in this thread please. :aok:

Thanks,
Owen.
