hey guys, newbie here. I was just wondering if Grampian Police recruits "young" Special Constable's. I'm 19 and at University and thinking of applying, but was wondering if there are any other "young" Special Constables. Thanks.

I think you will find there are A LOT of students who are specials. There are definitely several people on here who are applying at 18/19 too.

Not sure about Grampian in particular, but overall there are a lot of young specials about. Out of my class of 17, I would say over half are 21 years old or younger :)

I was19 when I became a special constable and wasn't even the youngest on my intake. Dont think age is taken into consideration as much for a special than it is for a regular. I would recommend applying, best thing I have done and has provided me with a lot of experience!

jon_boy92, I am a Special with Grampian, and in my intake there were four (or perhaps five) students.

Although, none of them were younger than 20. But what difference does one year make anyway? If you have a sufficiently mature head on your shoulders, and have a certain amount of life-experience, then those are the important things - not an arbitrary number of years.

Anyway, by the time you get through recruitment and training etc., then you may well be a year older ...:)

Seriously though, it is something worthwhile and I would encourage you to apply if you think you'd make a good Special, regardless of your age.

Good luck.

Hi, I am 19..well 20 next month, and at Uni.....have passed everything, just waiting for final stage of vetting. Police forces don't mind somebody who is young, as long as you can do the job properly....good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hey Jonboy92!

I myself am a 22 year old student applicant, applied in March 2011 and have currently just passed my interview, proceeding to the fitness and medical now. They will NOT discriminate against you for being a student or for your age, heck I'm only a few years older...barely any difference! what they are looking for is the right attitude and a desire to serve your community and make a difference

Get that appilcation in as soon as you can to get things rolling!

I'm only 18 and have just passed everything to be a Special in Hampshire (right down South!). I have more life experience than many people in their 20s or 30s - together with determination I've succeeded with the stepping stone to my dream career as a police officer!

There's no worries about age if you can do the job! I applied when I was 18, my first shift was when I was 19 and now I've just turned 20, most of the people on the course were under 25 ish, and I feel i haven't been discriminated in any way!

Go for it!
