Haven't really enjoyed my short time there. But each to their own, I'm considering moving boroughs

Can I ask why you haven't enjoyed your time there?

Hi all,

I just passed final exam and have the passing out ceremony on the 25th November. This is the first I have seen any negative post about Merton so hope its an isolated case. Either way I will let you know what my first dealings are like once I get stuck in.

....a situation that wasn't dealth with well. But everythings fine now so I guess no need to go into it.

Can I ask about the shift patterns, they keep telling me but I keep forgetting.
What are they and what are the briefing times again...many thanks!

Many thanks to all of you who have dropped me messages and who have got in touch via our office no. It's apparent that the information I have given is something that many of you have had questions about for some time, so I hope that this will benefit many others with similar queries.

For anyone who is still to choose your Borough, we are happy to talk to you should you feel Barnet is a BOCU that you would like to serve on, so feel free to contact us, as others have, if you would like further information.

Thanks

Barnet MSC team

There are plenty from those boroughs on this forum. They are just busy being served their cream teas by their butlers right now Posted Image

If you re going to work any of these boroughs then work Hounslow dont bother with Richmond or Kingston if you want to learn how to police :blu:

I was at Richmond for 2 and 1/2 yrs well the South side of the borough, and it is like nowhere else, I'm so glad I don't work there now, I certainly would advise against working where you live as well

I heard not long ago that Kingston only allows it's specials to patrol Kingston town centre during Saturday day times, which sounded very... limiting. I have since seen some specials milling around Kingston train station and the shopping centre on Saturday evenings but do they do response policing? Do they have any drivers?

Theres town centre patrols but you do response im out on team but you cant just jump straight in as they believe you shouldnt be thrown in the deep end. Tbh ive never seen a saturday day shift in the town centre but you can do any shift that the regs can do really. Its a good borough where the MSC are accepted by most

Hounslow had a similar attitude a while ago, Specials were disuaded rather strongly from working on response ever.

I'd advise strongly about going to Brent / Ealing / Camden, if you're looking for real action and a mass variety of different jobs to do and cases to deal with. (Especially Brent, they are doing stuff on the MSC no other borough in the Met is doing)

I'd stay away from Richmond and Kingston simply because of other quotes in this thread, and the main things you'll be dealing with is a wed/fri/sat night full of drunks coming out of the clubs.

Hounslow, the borough I grew up in and spent most of my life in, what can I say, full of anti social behaviour and petty crime in Feltham and Bedfont, then in Hounslow and Heston you have a lot of ethnic minority and Iselworth just smells of sewers in the summer so yeah

Brentford boy myself.

If I ever hear back about a date for retaking my interview, and pass everything else. I shall them be at Hounslow (fingers crossed)

As for Isleworth, it's not as bad as it was years ago. And you only smell the sewers for about a mile radius of the sewage works!!
