Special Constabulary - Recognition Award Scheme
Lothian and Borders Police has introduced the nationally agreed 'Recognition Award Scheme' for all Special Constables, who can either choose to opt into the scheme or not.
The Scheme includes an annual bonus of £1000 for all Special Constables who parade regularly over a 12 month period and work at least 180 hours per annum completing both operational and training duties.

Does that answer your question?

I know Durham carry out this scheme. (It is slightly better in actual fact I believe!)
Probably should have put it this way, does anyone know if Avon and Somerset use it?

I did the specials training weekend at the beginning of april so how many training hours will that take in? is it the hours we were on duty whie we were there or does it just count as 4 training modules?
And is a specials shift made up of half a normal shift?

ok so its 180hours made up of how many training/events/patrols hours?

The recognition award scheme is 180 hours total or 45 4-hour 'duties', and out of these 45 duties the requirement is broken down to:
- 32 regular duties
- 5 training duties
- 8 event duties
Basically for every 4 hours you work you get a duty. But, you can only receive a max of 2 duties per shift, so even if you work for 12 hours straight you will still only be given 2 duties towards the recognition scheme, and if you work 6 hours you cannot carry the 2 hours over to your next shift, you just receive 1 duty.
Hope that helps Kimberley

Interesting, do you know how many other forces use it?
As I understand it - and i could be horribly wrong here - it is the status quo in Scotland?

Plus that £1100 is after tax. Which makes it even nicer. There may or may not be (depending on the force's discretion) a "half way" award of £550 made to officers who join half way through the year if they complete half the required number of hours.
That it is £1100 until the student loan company have discovered its existence grumble, grumble grumble

I think it is 3 'duties' for the Specials weekend. I went last year (not this time due to prior commitments) and if memory serves me correctly (it may not) it was 2 duties for the Saturday and 1 for the Sunday.

hi this is my first post and not sure if this will be answered on here or not but anyway......the reward recognition isnt really explained anywhere or if it is i cant find it. Would someone please let me know (a break down please) how many hours you have to do to qualify. i know you have to do so many many training, events and patrols but not entirely sure how the hours are made up?
even if you dont want to post the answer on the forum could you please send me a pm?
thanks
Looks like all the answers have been posted above.
45 duties, made up of 32 patrol, 5 training and 8 event. Within that you can book 4 annual leave duties, but you are meant to meet the training and event requirements. You also ought to do at least one duty each Calendar month.
As Cmdkeen says, we managed to secure a 10% increase to the Reward a couple of years ago such that it is now £1100 tax and NI free, which means it's worth over £2K gross on some payslips.
In addition to the Reward, you are also entitled to claim expenses.
