Hi,

I am currently serving for essex police, i love it, but am looking to move to Nottingham in a few months time.

In essex we as specials arrange our own operations and get support from the regulars and pscos and within reason have access to most equipment. Is this the same in nottinghamshire?

We go out with regulars on most duties for us to get the most out of the job and to help complete our pdp's. Is this the same in nottinghamshire?

Do you know if i would need to hve further training moving to a different force?

Thanks in advanced

Hi,

I'm currently serving with Nottinghamshire now. If you drop me a private message I can point you in the right direction of who to contact within Notts if you have any further questions.

In notts we have personal issue ppe and radios. Radios are kept at the station in a personal radio locker, the same with CS. You will also have access to the key locker for vehicles although it is courtesy to ensure that it is cleared with the duty Sgt. Computer access is same as the regs although you have to complete different training packages to give you access to some systems. We run a lot of operations ourselves, indeed some have become more or less 'specials only' affairs but we are used throughout the force as well and included in bigger operations.

All new specials are required to complete a pdp, its basically an abridged version of the regulars one and it has to be done within 18-24 months otherwise questions will be raised as to why its not. During this time new specials will be tutored by a regular tutor or a special who has performed the same tutoring course as the regs (we have a few who have but its a week long course so not many are able), this should provide ample opportunity to ensure that pdp's are completed. All duties are arranged through the special sergeant who maintains contact on at least a weekly basis, I've been there over 5 years and still get texts requesting duty times, in the first 2 years specials will get a lot of support and don't really have to worry about what they will be doing as the sergeants should sort it out although individual arrangements can be made with tutors.

If your moving from a different force we will look at your length of service and what training you have already done, your Essex PDP may come in useful here. We had one special transfer from a nearby force who only needed an OST refresher as the baton is different, other than that it was an appointment with stores for a new uniform.

Which part of Notts are you interested in? I could find out some contact information or get someone to give you a ring? (PM that obviously)
