It seem's London parks police will be no more after councils are looking at taking up the BOGOF from the Mayor of London.

For every Officer the Council pays for the Mayor will give one free due to a 42 million pound reserve he has, I feel the parks will suffer as the MPS will not patrol parks correctly.

Hang on, It's not all councils who are looking at the BOGOF offer, I believe it is just Wandsworth. It may be worth the people of Wandsworth having a look at the parks in Sutton and Barking and Dagenham to see if they are any better off since the abolishment of their Parks Police, I think the local people will say that they were better off when the parks were patrolled by thier own officers and not the MPS. The MPS have bigger fish to fry........

I regularly walk through the parks in Lambeth and in Wandsworth, the difference is staggering, I sincerely hope the Parks police stay, they're incredibly valuable.

Once they are withdrawn the service is lost. We(MDP) are saying the exact same thing at the moment with all the cuts.

wandsworth had a look at merging with hammersmith and fulham but it was not economical and h&f decided against the merger.

I'm not aware of Wandsworth looking at merging with anyone. I know RBKC ParksPol were kicking the idea around when their borough's started negotiating about them, H&F and Westminster councils sharing services etc.

Currently I cannot make any comments on this subject. All I can do is point you to the two press releases and will let you make your own minds up. If I can comment in the future then I will gladly do so. I hope people will understand my inability at this time to comment further.

Thank you

Having had some contact with WPP I can say that the troops on the ground do a great job and it would be a shame to see all the hard work done by them to go to waste. Given the curent rounds of saving money it might be better to shave from the top rather than the ground floor. I personally hope that the WPP continues to grow and all this is just a paper folder in action.

Kitman as always you have my support

I think it would be tragic if the Wandsworth guys lose their jobs. I cycle through Battersea Park everyday and it is reassuring that there's a regular police presence for the kids who play there and the adults who walk or jog through.

As they are not a Home Office force I would suspect that they would have to go through the same recruitment process and retraining that all HO police officers have to do.

Royal Parks didn't - they did have to go through a welcome to the Met course.

Though the RPC, not HO force, did use simular recruiting standards and pay scales as HO

That's because RPC did the old NPT training which was the standard HO training back then. From what I understand WPP do their own in-house training.

I have very little opinion about whether this is a good or bad proposal as I don't know too much about it. However, I wouldn't like to see people lose their jobs and think that they should be offered posts within the Met if this goes through: I'm sure a conversion course etc would be pretty straightforward.

Sadly no, we will all be made redundant, there are no offers of any other employment. The Met have indicated that if TUPE rules apply then they would not go ahead with this scheme, clearly this is an avenue which we are exploring right now and are hoping that TUPE applies!!!

I wish all uses guys the best of luck for the future and hope that some sort of transfer is offered, its a shabby way that you have all been treated after serving your community.

No, Hammersmith & Fulham officers had to start it all from scratch, same for all the Council forces.

what is TUPE?

TUPE is The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of employment) regulations, known as TUPE, govern the transfer of an undertaking (that’s a business or part of one) to a new employer. The TUPE regulations also cover changes in service provision thereby protecting workers who are assigned to a contract that is being reassigned or is being brought back in-house. The TUPE regulations strengthen the rights of staff involved in transfers, providing them with continuity of employment and the same terms and conditions as they had prior to the transfer.

First introduced in 1981, the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of employment) regulations were introduced to protect workers involved in transfers. They were introduced to comply with the European Community Directives covering the transfer of employees. The TUPE regulations have subsequently been amended and are now known as TUPE 2006.

I'm sure they used Ashford. The PIRT was carried out at Sunbury Upon Thames.
