with regards to going into full time paid employment (when they eventually decide to recruit again) i was wondering a few things:

1- does your warrant card and collar number stay the same?
2- do you just use your specials uniform?
3- is it worth waiting for IPS whilst a special before applying for regs. if so whats the difference?
4- if you applied to be a reg and you didnt have IPS would that affect anything in your job in the regs?

cheers people.

1- No
2- No
3- Doesn't really make a difference, but having the extra experience up to IPS status can only be a good thing and will definitely show at interview.
4- No

Seems a bit mad I know, but that's what I've seen happen to officers who leave and then return again.

it does seem a bit daft and time wasting tho.

The uniform you get as a special is different to that issued as a Regular, and effectively you have become a different person, certainly as far as Stores are concerned, as you get a new Collar number etc it probably make life easier to say as Fred Bloggs hand everything in, and then as Jack Sparrow have this much larger pile of clothes over here.

What differences are there between the uniforms? I thought the only difference was specials number began with a different number

King

Can you please modify your post, I'd deem that Operational info.
The difference is that you get issued more as a Reg, more Tops, more trousers, black waterproof coat, etc etc

I have edited my post. Although I don't believe that to be operational info purely on the basis that I am not yet a serving special and therefore not privy to any operational info and everything I know is what is readily available to the public.

Specials who go on to join the regs are normally given the choice of whether they'd like to keep any items they already have, or trade them in for new ones.... at least this is what I was told by the SC who left us last year to become a PC.

Most would, understandably, trade in their old smelly kit to get new shiny kit. After all, you would be using it a bit more....
