I've looked around the forum about the Medical Assessment and have come across all sorts of different answers to this question.
I have my Medical Assessment on the 31st March and was told that it involves a Lung Capacity Test, Urine Test etc etc.... I was also told that it involves an Eyesight Test. Am I to be tested again as I was already tested for this at my opticians? Or do they just look over the notes that the opticians made?
My eyes aren't great and this is the area that I'm most anxious about. So your help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Usually the force approved medical doctor/nurse has to conduct the full examination which includes eyesight test, this is because they have a set of standards that need to be met which is issued by the force. But i would take your opticians notes along with you it might help.
Its a basic eye test (chart reading both from a distance and a note chart which has different sizes of text on it with a specific letter/number) ive not heard of anyone not having to take the eye test because they have recently has a test with there optician. The force has got to approve you fit for service and they way they do that is document the medical results for every part of it. If in doubt call HR and ask advice, but usually you will have to retake the test at your medical.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that, that has helped alot. They have all my medical notes as I've already sent them so I'm assuming that they will refer to that. Is the eyesight test just like the one at an opticians with the chart behind you and you read it from the reflection in the mirror??

your welcome, no theres no mirror reflection, its a chart on a wall or the back of a door and you have to read it from a set distance, also for BTP we had to read a card that had different sizes of text and the smallest you could read had a number/letter beside it (N4),which you had to tell the nurse, thats all thats involved, quite easy.
The hardest part for me was the hearing test but that was due to being able to hear doors close and floor boards creek haha
Im sure youll be fine

Hey Crofty_11
I assume you are applying to Herts, check out the receruitment process link on the Herts forum. It gives a runsown of the whole process from beginning to end, and it is very useful info!
I do recall though that the eyesight test is done again, a bit more than a chart on the wall though!
Good luck mate

Hello mate,
What do you mean by a bit more than a chart on the wall?

Hello mate,

You look into a gadget which gives different perspectives on images and numbers etc....nothing too taxing though. Along with that is the colour blindness test.

Okay, so do you have to look into the gadget thingy as well as a chart on a wall?

Ohh okay that sounds easier than looking at a wall with letters on it with what my eyes are like unaided. I hope the gadget thingy isn't too hard..... and i'm slightly colour blind soo not sure how that's gonna go...
I'm such a worrier!

Well thats a bit reassuring. I wear contacts and they're -2.00 so I should be fine. Just worried that this will ruin it for me, its been a long process getting here, and I dread the thought of going through it all again. My vision was actually recorded as worse after looking through the gadget than it was looking at the optitions wall chart. I found it quite difficult as my eyes aren't great!
But still passed fine!

As you say, it should be fine. Try not to panic too much.

That's good to hear! The minimum line unaided is the 2nd line down right?
