Not to take anything away from anyone, but you are not an SC until you've actually been attested. Until everything (vetting, medical etc), comes back as OK and you are subsequently attested you are an SC applicant - you couldn't exercise any police powers for example.

Length of service however may be slightly different. In my force it's counted from when you commence training (as you are still giving up your free time to Surrey Police), which is about four months before you're attested.

Its the same in Cleveland, length of service starts when your training begins but you dont get your warrant card or powers until attested. The poll results so far maybe dont reflect that some people who have classed themselves as an SC may still be in training and hold no powers what so ever. It's also great to see the number of regular officers using the forum, it's clearly down to the quality of the website and the ways is run.

No mate, there was no poll there. Just the question you asked. This is a good thread though, worthy of pinning. I'm just conscious that there's a fair few threads pinned in this section already, and for them to work we should keep them to a minimum. What do people think - should this be pinned?

Apologies I did set some poll questions but clearly didn't upload it correctly. I think the mix of poll questions you set are very good. It's interesting to see the status of people visiting the site and also some statistics about ranks etc. Clearly lots of people who are thinking of joining use the site but its great to see so many regulars using it to pass on their expertise.

An AO in some forces is equivalent to a Sgt, whereas in others they run whole divisions (which would have been a DO in my force under the old system). It's too confusing as they are not necessarily equal to each other in different forces, so people in those positions can vote based on how many times they've been promoted (once for Sgt, twice for Insp, and so on).

I've edited the poll to read 'or equivalent' next to S/Sgt and S/Insp.

Failed!! isn't there another section marked "Other law enforcement" Military police, HATO etc? I'm pretty sure RAFP could be described as an "etc". :) :)
