Recruiting starting again

The Assessment day isn't too bad; there were about thirty of us at mine last month! but you'll be put into groups of five or six then go around the different assessments. When you're in the assessments, to quote an earlier post by Suggs:
"think about the core competencies they look for. Bear them in mind when you are doing the tasks and you should be fine. Be confident but not overly! If there is a team task make sure you join in but dont take over the task, make sure everyone is included. Try to relax and really listen to the tasks to ensure you do it right. If its what you really want and you are ready to do the job, then you will be fine!"
Best of luck

I've just gotten an invitation for Tayside A/C and fitness test, and since no one else seems to be talking about A/C at Tayside I thought I would join in with you guys.
How is everyone's "revision" going? hehe

My A/C is on 20th April. My original one was 7th March but they forgot to email me or something, and then I obviously missed it... So they chucked me off the recruitment process temporarily! ARGH

It's actually all very nerve-wracking now... Before, when I had only sent my application form, nothing felt any different. But now I'm nervous! Need to see about learning all my competencies and about the force!

So does your AC include the SETs aswell as fitness etc or have you already done your SETS? In regards to learning about the force - are you living within the force area? if so it makes it a lot easier i think!

Yeah, the A/C has SETs, group exercise, written exercise, fitness test, and interview. It's fairly daunting to think that it's all happening in one day, but it's nice not to have to go back again--if you get what I mean?
I don't live in my force area, so that makes me nervous. I'm just in Fife though, so it's just a wee drive up the motorway.
Have you heard anything about your fitness test yet?

I think I would rather have it all in the one day. Fitness and AC are on Friday...who knows how it will go but will try my best
How are you feeling about your SETS/fitness etc? Have you been studying etc?

Hi

The familiarisation and SET event is informal, although they don't tell you that part. I turned up wearing a smart shirt and jeans. I wasn't the best dressed (most were in suits), but I wasn't the worst either. They tell you at the time that its informal, but I still think that its good to make a first impression, so smart casual is probably best.

I know there hasn't been a reply in here for a while, but got a hopefully quick question.
I'm currently applying for the regs, nearly finished the application form, but noticed that there isn't any of the questions about team work, problem solving etc. I just wanted to check if this would be later on, or do I need to include it in the 'additional information' section?
Sent an email to their HR, but not had a reply yet.
Thanks, hopefully that makes sense.

Complete the application form as is, no need to add any competences at the moment.

Got a email today, inviting me to SET and a fitness test for a couple of weeks time. Sadly I can't get the time off work, so hopefully I'll be able to attend another date. Also gives me a bit extra time to work on my fitness!
Well good luck when you get a new date set! Also good luck with the fitness test, I know what it's like, just keep the head down on the day and push yourself until you really can't go any further, will be over in no time!

Hi, that is great about your invite, I too got one sent to me on the 21st May 2012 but they said to just keep checking my emails for a date, Just wondering if you had heard anything else about a date? Its coming up onto the 2months mark from when i heard from them, but i am guessing that this is normal?
thanks!

I can't remember how long I waited. Sadly I've had to withdraw my application at this time.
Good luck

I wouldn't worry too much if you don't hear back for a while, they do have a number of applicants and they only have a limited number of spaces at one time so it is really just a waiting game. If you are looking for a quick update then just give recruitment a phone and ask them what is happening.

I've got the assessment centre stage next week for Central Scotland Police and plan on revising the core competencies for the different assessments.
The email inviting me to attend doesn't give much away so was wondering whether to expect an interview as well, or whether that comes at a later stage?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Thanks very much for the reply. Forgot to say it's for the specials. What did you do to prepare for the assessment centre if you don't mind me asking? There is no interview at this stage in the process, the interview is always the last stage in the process and if you make it to that stage you are told straight away whether or not you have been successful. The assessment centre is a combination of different group excercises and discussions that allow the staff to see how you respond and react within these scenarios. The recruitment process changes slightly at different times so it is slightly different to when I when through it earlier this year so I may not be 100% correct with what the process is but if you pass the assessment centre, you would then be asked back for either an interview or fitness test and if you pass one then you'd be asked back to complete the other.

There isn't really anything you can do for preperation, just think about all the skills needed to be a Special Constable and try and filter these through in the assessment. Team work, effective communication etc etc.
